Tytan DeJong was on his official visit to BYU this weekend. DeJong committed to BYU over Cal, Michigan, Purdue, Stanford, Oregon State, Utah State, and Utah.
Couple clips from the BYU elite camp!! Thankful for the coaching staff for the love and coaching. So blessed God has given me the body to perform and these opportunities.
No better place to be than BYU!! 🤙

COLLEGE PROSPECTS - LB
These are the top 5 LB prospects in our state with the highest ceiling at this time.
I’ll include a list of players who are knocking on the door in the comments!
• Kingston Stroshine - Lone Peak
• 6’1 - 210
Only a 2029, but made a pivotal difference for the Knights on the defensive side of the ball a season ago. He has a rare combination and of speed, strength and athleticism that college coaches are already lining up for. He currently holds several P4 offers, but expect that list to blow up over the next 3 seasons. Special talent!
@KingStro5@LPKnightsFB
• Tytan Dejong - Mountain Ridge
• 6’3 - 215
Tytan is one of best football players in the West, flat out. He was primarily implemented on offense last season, but made no mistake about it, he is one of the 5 best LB prospects in Utah. He recently committed to BYU where he will play LB. His size, speed, athletic ability and versatility are unmatched. Look for him to be a leader in the 6A ranks this coming season.

• Fui Vakapuna - Timpview
• 6’2 - 220
Fui is a phenomenal talent and is a nightmare for the opposing ball carrier on any given night. His physical, punishing style is exactly what coaches like to see from their LB prospects. Vakapuna will be playing for Timpview after transferring over from Corner Canyon, and I fully expect him to dominate the 5A classification. He’s another player that already has P4 offers, but I anticipate him adding several more over the next few months.

• Sam Ngata - Olympus
• 6’4 - 215
Sam is a prospect that might have the highest ceiling out of anyone in the state. His frame and athleticism are next level, and I think he’s barely scratching the surface of what he can be. The Oregon commit is going to be exciting to watch because he can step on the field at multiple positions and be the best guy. This is rare, coveted ability. It would not surprise me to see Sam have a SPECIAL season.

• Monson Tukuafu- Bingham
• 6’3 - 235
Monson is a player that showcases elite traits. I feel like he is the most physically ready player in the state to make the jump to college football. He also possesses 4.6 40 speed at 235lbs, which makes him very intriguing for a modern day backer. He will stop the run, but he also has the speed to cover in the passing game. He will be generating significant interest throughout the season.

BYU commit Tytan DeJong joined @espnthefan to break down why he chose BYU over Utah:
Q: Let’s go! Was BYU always a favorite, or did it become one over time? Walk us through your recruitment process.
DeJong: What’s crazy is I’ve lived in Utah my entire life, and I actually grew up a Utah fan. For the longest time, I thought there was no way I’d ever be a Cougar—but obviously that changed. BYU offered me on January 8th, 2026. Coach Kalani Sitake was actually at my school when they offered, which made it really special. The love I felt from Coach Kalani, Coach Pop, and the rest of the staff—it hit me right away. I could see myself playing there.
Q: Had you built a relationship with the staff before that, or was that your first real interaction?
DeJong: I went to their camp in June of 2025, so I had been around them and saw the facilities. But my first real sit-down conversation with them was the day they offered.
Q: Who worked with you at that camp?
DeJong: I went in as a linebacker. Coach Ena was working with us, and Coach Pop was involved too. They were both hands-on.
