Judge (not DA) forced my client to plea while a procedural motion to dismiss (30.30) was pending. She refused to rule on the motion prior to taking the plea and refused to keep the offer on the table until after she was prepared to rule on the motion.
The humanitarian crisis is that jails exist. I got to see the "mental health" wing of one of our local jails and it's extraordinarily obvious that the way we treat incarcerated folks is meant for the convenience of the staff/system, NOT for helping the individual
