@five_tokyo haha yeah i thought you were talking about that! very old school! and jazz is a very broad church, maybe there’s something you can find that you’ll like, someday … :)
@five_tokyo aha, the old rock'n'roll song? very different feeling! but i know it! actually, many songs on this rafael toral album are adaptations of old jazz standards.
@wizard_waterloo yeah, the blake-wordsworth thing is definitely a great starting place for this in verse! the cowper powys novels are great, particularly if you like the older scott moncrieff translation of proust and its slightly more stately (not to say fustian) style.
@wizard_waterloo lawrence is quite good on this too – in his critical writings on hardy (tremendous on the genius loci of place) and also his travel writings!
@treasureh8nter@bunburyoudoujp this guy took a conceited twitter handle that presents himself as some warrior-intellectual. then you check his profile and he’s spent full-time hours for 2 yrs getting upset with gaijin who don’t bow deep enough and arguing over black characters in videogames. a breathing meme.
@bunburyoudoujp genuinely, why does it bother you someone may have different politics to your own? i don’t understand why you flip from the nice guy advice act to inviting groyper pile-ons. i’m sure great glorious nippon is strong enough to take a few posts critical of the LDP. that’s democracy.
@becimay or, put less cynically, is that kind of post-new labour equation of more grads with the general good actually a laudable aim in-itself anymore …
@becimay i think it’s structural unfortunately. and i wonder where all the grads of the much expanded UK unis are going to go, particularly if AI delivers on even half of its mephistophelean promises; is a lifetime of indentured servitude to debt for the white-collar pony cert worth it?
@dascho_scribler@jemgilbert you could easily do that as an undergraduate at any number of institutions? unless you mean specific access to certain archives? redbricks and plate glass unis have entire term-long modules given over to these very topics …
