Learned this the hard way watching Amorim’s back 5 at United
Spurs had the exact same issues
The Premier League level is so high teams maximise the distances wing-backs have to jump to apply pressure
This distance constantly allows Arsenal to have a route out and exert control
Šeško’s goal had all the hallmarks of an elite CF
🔺 Occupies the space between the CBs
🔺Makes a straight central-channel run, not angled wide
🔺That angle opens his body to goal, so he finishes naturally
If he runs diagonally, he has to rotate his body and the finish is harder

Amorim is still inverting the CCB.
Interestingly Licha played that role when he came on and looked so comfortable there because of his low centre of gravity and skill set.
He should 100% be an option going forward, as I covered before if Amorim sticks with this.

Jack Grealish is one of the biggest reasons for Everton’s great start.
This clip is a perfect microcosm. He drags players to him while Everton overload the box for the cross.
Classic David Moyes
Next step for Everton is getting overlapping full backs for N’Diaye and Grealish
Are these new issues for Liverpool? I’d say no.
These flaws in their press were there last season too.
It was never ultimate control.
The difference now is Salah’s dip in output, so those flaws aren’t being masked anymore.

Analysing Liverpool’s press vs Real Madrid
Massive win for Liverpool —Anfield on nights like that makes them so hard to beat
The fans almost suck goals in, like an extra man in the press
But there are still flaws in the press Liverpool fans should worry about
MINI THREAD 🔴🧵
Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest take on Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United this weekend.
Dyche has replaced Postecoglou, and his principles are far closer to Nuno’s than his predecessor’s.
But are there areas Amorim’s United can exploit?
Let’s review
🔴 THREAD 🧵👇🏻
I think we’ll see the most effective Eberechi Eze in the latter stages of the UCL for Arsenal
When teams go toe to toe, those transition moments are where he thrives
He is elite at drawing pressure and releasing runners, Jack Grealish-esque and his🔝 dribbling + ball striking🧠
Watching the first 5 minutes of Man United vs Brighton game yesterday I noticed how complacent Man United were in their actions
It set the tone for the game
It allowed Brighton to gain a foothold into the game without doing anything extraordinary tactically
Let’s review 🔴
Last season, Manchester United’s sloppy first five minutes set the tone and Brighton scored early and never looked back.
That can’t happen today.
After the Liverpool win, this feels like one of the biggest games of Rúben Amorim’s tenure. 🔴
Brighton last season exploited United’s and Amorim’s subpar press.
Estupiñán inverted behind the first line, giving Brighton control.
João Pedro found pockets behind midfield and caused chaos.
Hürzeler will look to exploit that again.
Amorim has to adapt.
These are the passes that must be played against Brighton’s press.
Amorim said it himself last season: “…no putting ball between the lines, always a touch”
That’s exactly what he meant
Yoro and Shaw need to play into Cunha and Mbeumo
Be brave! This will cause Brighton issues
One of my first posts on here was about how United could get joy at Anfield.
Despite how poor Utd were, it was clear when analysing Slot’s 4-2-4 press + Amorim’s willingness to commit bodies in build-up, how United could exploit it
Has anything changed this season?

One reason Liverpool are struggling this season is Szoboszlai not playing as an advanced 10 from a defensive POV
He was the glue last year, part of the front two in the press, did Salah’s running, and when the press was bypassed tucked into the 6 while Gravenberch helped the FB
Hansi Flick has Marcus Rashford operating in the same spaces he thrived in during Erik Ten Hag’s first season at Manchester United.
False dawn or a genuine revival?
Have a read below if you’d like 👇🏻
Cole Palmer — best way to manipulate a man-to-man press is with triple, even quadruple movements:
🔺 He drops deep to receive it deep
🔺 He spins in behind when he doesn’t get it into the space he vacated
🔺 With defender on back foot, drops again to receive from Reece James
Everyone, myself included, has pointed out the flaws in Amorim’s system that he refuses to adapt.
But let’s look at the actual numbers from his Premier League games as Manchester United boss as it always feels like Manchester United are chasing games every week.

Xavi Simons is another blade in Thomas Frank’s Swiss Army knife.
He can operate in every game state.
Frank’s creating of artificial transition’s will let him thrive.
His lower body strength, close dribbling and ball striking mean he can affect every game

Newcastle have finally brought in a striker.
With the Isak saga drawn to a close , Newcastle needed a replacement.
They have landed on Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
Let’s breakdown what he brings to Eddie Howe’s side
