Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has set out his views on Labour's path forward and the policy challenges facing the country.
Speaking to Channel 4 News' Andrew Misra, Burnham said he wanted Labour to become “a party that they can believe in again, a party solidly on the side of working class people.”
The Daily Mirror, 1978, the first year Britain got a bank holiday to mark ‘May Day’.
Marx’s grave was defaced. Shopkeepers vowed to stay open in defiance of an “un-British” or “communist” holiday. Conservative clubs flew flags at half mast… 🤭
Every passing day I get more and more annoyed that they chose a closed-list system for the Senedd election.
A total power grab by the parties from the electorate. I want my vote to represent a specific approval of a person or people, not contentment with anyone on a list.
The next Welsh Government should make it an immediate priority to replace the system with Single Transferable Vote for 2030. Power to the people!
Massive new concrete build, 145m high stacks, damaging to the environment, importing gas to create energy, under the guise of carbon capture!
Connah’s Quay power station developer admits it cannot avoid damaging protected Dee Estuary | https://t.co/wKke3GYoY2
Uniper admits its planned Connah's Quay power station would permanently damage the protected Dee Estuary — and is asking inspectors to approve it anyway. The company says Britain needs the electricity. https://t.co/zQWGJnHs18
This plan will destroy internationally protected saltmarshes and curlew habitats in the Dee Estuary.
It is being pushed through as a project of 'Critical National Priority' so it can connect to carbon capture technology which has failed almost everywhere it has been attempted!
Monday Night Football 2025/26
MNF fixtures are known until Mon 4th May (GW35) and it's a very uneven picture. #EFC and #MUFC a big draw for broadcasters but these unsocial slots cost travelling fans extra time off work etc.
We understood no club was meant to play more than 5 games in these Mon/Fri slots but that's clearly not happening and it's not fair on those supporters.
Both the broadcasters and Premier League have questions to answer on this and we'll be raising these TV/fixture issues at our upcoming supporter engagement meetings.
Broadcasters put a lot of money into the game but, as we saw through Covid, without a crowd football just isn't the same. Matchgoers deserve respect.

For more than four decades, miners and their families have been forced to live with unanswered questions.
Today, I am formally launching the Orgreave Inquiry to uncover the truth of what happened.
I pay tribute to the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign, the National Union of Mineworkers, and all those who campaigned so tirelessly to reach this moment.
“I was given a free trip to China to meet a nice man who asked interesting questions about British politics but I don’t think I was being recruited by an intelligence agency, I’m far too clever to fall for that.”
Andy Burnham says Britain is still “in hock to the bond markets” thanks to what he calls the four horsemen of the apocalypse: “Deregulation, privatisation, austerity and Brexit.” https://t.co/5NlRsyTmtk
I know many, many trade unionists will be so disappointed and angry at local members not being given a say over who their candidate should be. This isn’t the way any democratic organisation should be run. Now’s the time to unite our movement not divide it.
I have today written to the Chair of Labour’s National Executive Committee seeking permission to enter the selection process for a candidate for the forthcoming Gorton and Denton by-election.
