TRUMP'S ENDGAME IN IRAQ: From 23-Year War to Final Exit
Washington closes a 23-year chapter as U.S.-Saudi strikes pound Iran-backed militias and the White House sets a hard deadline.
In a move President Donald Trump is framing as both an ending and a beginning, the United States military is on track to leave Iraq by September 30, 2026 โ ending a presence that began with the 2003 invasion of Saddam Hussein.
Standing alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in the Oval Office on July 14, Trump declared: "we don't think we need the military there anymore" and noted Iraq's growing relationships with oil companies. 8801054044373563137
"The relationship is a whole big relationship where we don't need the military," Trump said. "We're there to help them. We're there to protect them if need be. But we don't think that's going to be necessary." 8801054044373563137
Through an interpreter, al-Zaidi confirmed: "U.S. forces will be out of Iraq" by Sept. 30, "while U.S. companies will be inside Iraq."
Today's Status: On Track
As of mid-August, Pentagon officials say the pullout remains on schedule. The AP reported on August 13 that officials confirmed U.S. forces are on track to complete the Iraq pullout by Sept. 30, reaffirming a 2024 agreement struck under the Biden administration to end the anti-ISIS mission. 475a8801054044373563137
At its peak, the U.S. presence grew to more than 170,000 troops in 2007. By 2021 it was down to about 2,500 trainers and advisers. Many have already departed since the 2024 deal. 8801054044373563137
The Other War: Trump vs. Iran's Proxies Inside Iraq
While the formal war is ending, a shadow war has escalated in 2026.
Following the outbreak of the 2026 Iran war in February, U.S. Central Command has faced relentless pressure inside Iraq. CENTCOM stated there were more than 600 attempted attacks on U.S. citizens and facilities by Iran-aligned terrorist militias in Iraq from February through April 2026. d091
The response was direct and unprecedented in its partnership:
On July 28, U.S. Central Command and the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes in Iraq against Iran-aligned terrorists that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) directed to attack U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. 8225242019041939435
The joint operation, described as U.S.-Saudi strikes against sites of Iran-backed groups in Iraq, hit Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) sites across several provinces. The PMF said at least 20 of its members were killed. 5f85
U.S. officials said the strikes came after 30 aerial drone attacks directed by Tehran's IRGC in a 72-hour window. d091
This marks the core of what some analysts are now calling Trump's war in Iraq โ not a war against Iraq, but a war inside Iraq against Iran's network.
What Trump Is Betting On
Three pillars define the Trump administration's current Iraq strategy:
1. Disarm the Militias. The White House is pushing Baghdad to disarm Iran-linked militias, a U.S.-backed effort that experts say has hit setbacks. The meeting with al-Zaidi was meant to accelerate that. cd4b
2. Oil for Security. Trump's public comments have tied withdrawal to economic deals. The continuation of the national emergency with respect to the stabilization of Iraq cites the need to protect Iraqi oil revenues and reconstruction, and Trump has explicitly linked troop drawdown to U.S. energy companies entering Iraq. d4cf
3. Leave but Loom. Even while withdrawing, Trump has kept the threat of return. "If Iran should do anything, we will be there to help the Iraqi people," he said in July.
The Power Players Angle
For ThePowerPlayersMagazine audience, the takeaway is business and influence. The military exit is not isolation โ it's a pivot from boots to barrels, contracts, and private investment.

Walk in the break room and Washington up 10-0
@Peace_theprize What ifโฆ Washington had no biological children, so any shared โfamilyโ with Trump would be distant at best. The painting is doing symbolic work, not genealogy.
@CDMorlock Did you know she spent her formative years living in Washington DC? Many of the Laurel Canyon 60s music "talent" did with ties to military industrial complex too.
The oligarchy plans decades in advance developing long term processes for "change." Realizing: time is irrelevant
@ImBreckWorsham What this genius doesn't comprehend is that Washington DC is not part of the United States.
It is a City-State.
It's police do not serve you, they serve the City-State
In other words, you have no recognized rights in that place.
Danburyโs City Council voted 18โ2 to allow lawful permanent residents and DACA recipients to apply for police jobs. Mayor Roberto Alves, who said he grew up undocumented, became a U.S. citizen in 2017. The vote came days after ICE operations in the city.

Is Trump flailing when it comes to Canada? The value of the Canadian dollar (CAD) relative to the U.S. dollar (USD) is primarily driven by market forces, global commodity prices (like oil), and monetary policy managed independently by the Bank of Canada, not Washington.

@WhiteHouse Ope. Looks like delusional grandpa woke up. He shouldn't have the car keys let alone the nuclear codes. He thinks he is meeting with George Washington too. Total wack job.
@ScottBarrettDFB No, i got cute at the 5/6 turn and drafted Luther Burden & DeAndre Swift, thinking i could get Washington at the 7/8 turn according to ADP. Sniped, & the tilting beganโฆ
