Finishing what what we started.

A little more than a year ago, this section of the North Spokane Corridor that extends from Alki to Sprague didn't exist. In one week, we will set the final girders for this project. We've even poured quite a bit of concrete on the bridge deck.

Here's a look at where traffic is being diverted off I-5 in Tumwater. The interstate is closed in both directions.
There are power outages and delays on detour routes in the area. Continue to delay travel if possible. We'll reopen the road as soon as we can.

We're working with utility crews to cleanup downed wires on I-5 between Tumwater and Maytown. The road is closed. Traffic is diverted around the closure on SR 121. Avoid the area. If you're traveling, expect delays along the detour until work is complete.

The ramps at Exit 16 near ilani are blocked due to an overturned semi carrying chickens. It’s a bit of a fowl situation🐔

WSP, WSDOT crews & animal control are on scene working to safely collect the chickens. Expect delays & use caution.

Collision on I-5 NB at MP 16.8 near La Center Road has the NB on ramp closed. Use alternative routes beginning at 9:39 am on Sept. 23, 2026 until further notice.

UPDATE 3: Three left lanes of SB I-5 on the Ship Canal Bridge remain blocked due to a collision involving a semi. The left lane is closed just south of this incident for construction. We are seeing 6+ miles of backup into Shoreline. Consider taking SR 99 or other routes.

As noted, the schedule of test runs can change. Today's did. The test ended at Vancouver, WA, and is making the return trip from there. Because the schedule is off, there are no times to share for the northbound run. Catch it in the wild if you can.

Thursdays offer more chances to see the new Amtrak Cascades train. Departs Seattle 6:20 am-Arrives in Portland 9:42 am. Departs Portland 10:50 am and reaches Seattle near 3 pm. These are training runs so the test schedule is subject to change. Photo courtesy of Nathan Bofto.

SR 291 is REOPEN from Spokane to Suncrest, near Spokane Complex Fires.

Crews surveyed 6 acres of land for slope stability and felled dozens of trees to prepare the road for opening. They did all work while the road was closed and in coordination with fire crews.

Updated: SR 155 is now open. The speed limit is reduced to 45 MPH through a 32-mile section from MP 46 to 78 for the safety of fire crews entering the highway from side roads. Fire and evacuation information available at: https://t.co/sgehQcHUNc
