In today's Biblical Theology newsletter, I'm discussing a cumulative case that church membership is biblical.

I explain and substantiate these ten reasons:

1. The New Testament letters were written to organized churches.

2. There are reports in the New Testament of people being counted and added.

3. Elders are called to shepherd a particular flock.

4. The practice of excommunication involves removal from something you belong to.

5. Taking matters of discipline to the church assumes an identifiable church body.

6. Christian obedience involves actions toward one another.

7. Christian maturity involves accountability.

8. Discipleship involves submission to teaching and authority.

9. Decisions are made by a recognized congregation.

10. Congregations are called to guard the gospel.
