My wife and I just had dinner at our favorite spot
Now it’s time to sit on the couch with a nice cocktail and watch Michigan get embarrassed on a national stage
Life is good
The Hendon Hooker is the worst pick in the Draft, and their draft as a whole is one of the worst I can ever remember. Let me explain...
THE WHOLE IDEA when you got Jared Goff two years ago was to bridge your way to a better roster, and then, ideally the opportunity at a potentially elite Quarterback when the opportunity arose.
They executed the first two years of this plan to perfection! Things were coming together... an exciting finish to year 2 of the rebuild showed TONS of promise, cap space opened up and an improved team in Free Agency was building buzz take that final step in Year 3.
They even got so lucky that the Rams handed them the #6 overall pick, the conference fell into pieces, and it gave them the rare chance at that high end Quarterback being range. They could have take #6 and put together a package to move up for a guy like Anthony Richardson. Or used that pick for a potentially transformative defensive player that is so hard to come by.
You don't like these Quarterbacks... You want to pass on Levis twice? You don't want to move up for Richardson? Fine. I can live with it. But Instead, they move to #12 and took a RUNNINGBACK!? One who won't even be a full time starter for them after they just paid up for David Montgomery? And a low upside linebacker with the 18th pick... So you aren't even maximizing your chance to win now with Goff. But that's not the worst part...
Taking Hendon Hooker in the 3rd round is the WORST thing you possibly could have done. You take a player, who... If everything goes right... Can MAYBE be good enough to KEEP YOU IN PURGATORY for another 3+ years!?!? And beyond that, just as we saw with Atlanta who took Ridder last year, will be just good enough for you to convince yourself to not make a move for a QB next year... You won't make a move because you invested JUST enough in Hendon Hooker, and he won't have played enough for you to have a judgment on him.
Detroit locked themselves into at least 3 more years of purgatory QB play and also completely shit the bed on maximizing picks 6 & 18 with guys like Carter, Wilson, Nolan Smith, Gonzalez, Porter, Banks, etc... Who actually may have made them a legit playoff contender in this unique window with a bad NFC.
Maybe Hooker is the next Tom Brady and I eat my words, but I'm willing to bet against that. I was critical of Atlanta for taking Ridder for similar reasons last year, but all things considered, this is WAY WORSE.
I'm sorry Lions fans, really thought this regime had a vision, but this was like Disney coming in and having a vision for the new Star Wars Trilogy only to change writers for episode 3 creating a steaming pile of shit where there's no plan at all and nothing makes sense.
For years I’ve had this saved in my camera roll, only hoping I’d be able to use it one day. This day feels right. Even if this is his last game and he rides off into the sunset, Coach Harbaugh Forever man. LEGEND.
