@girldrawsghosts It’s mayonnaise , thinner and with more vinegar so it’s more acidic. Dad used to use it to make potato salad (which was honestly pretty good).
@parsnipzilla@TerwillikerInst Death isn’t the only weight in an adventure series but if it isn’t you need to replace it with something else. Especially when the series devotes a large part of its run time to the alien of the week pointing ray guns at things.
@parsnipzilla@TerwillikerInst If you present the peril only to have it overcome immediately the tension is lost. New Who is at its best when it is able make the peril “feel” present but holds off resolving it. (Human Nature, Midnight etc)
@parsnipzilla@TerwillikerInst Yes but it’s a comedy, the peril having zero weight is a feature not a bug. Plus it actually explores the concept of a main character who is effectively immunized from the consequences of their actions which New Who barely touches on outside of Big Finish.
@Chiscringle@TerwillikerInst Nah most of the classic Doctors had arcs, they were just less lampshades and weren’t confined to single seasons. Troughton was the weakest in terms of arcs but even he has Evil of the Daleks which was the conclusion to the Dalek saga that started with the Dead Planet.
@TerwillikerInst I always recommend to people if you are watching classic Who for the first time; watch an episode a day. Binging the series robs it of that tension where you wonder “oh how’s he getting out of this one!?” for 24 hours which is really what brings you back.
@TerwillikerInst The new series, the how becomes apparent in a scene or two. So unless the writing is particularly strong, we lose that tension and the peril loses its weight. To ratchet up the peril the series needs to use cheats, characters die but are saved or brought back etc
@XMartinsMusicX Joy Division never really recorded it in studio, a live version appears on Still and years later a studio rehearsal of it surfaced. It might show up on a bootleg or two as well.
@BenoitBlancFan I honestly thought they were going to be clever (and we’d seen previews of an ep set in the 60s) and she’d be a character they meet in the past. Especially as she doesn’t seem not notice the TARDIS until Ruby boards and starts to travel with the Doctor.
