Around a year ago, the government announced that every senior citizen aged 70+, irrespective of income or background, would be eligible for a ₹5 lakh health insurance per annum under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card.
It comes with cashless treatment across ~32,000 empanelled hospitals, both government and private. Rollout and registration have been progressing throughout the year.
The experience of claiming under this policy may vary from person to person. Having said that, if there’s one thing worth doing before this year ends, it’s making sure every 70+ elder around us is at least aware of this; and, where possible, helping them get registered.
