Gukesh defeats Alireza Firouzja in the penultimate round of the Candidates Tournament, now taking sole lead!

Gukesh played a phenomenal game with the White pieces to take down Alireza Firouzja. This game was a huge fight - Gukesh actually got a worse position out of the opening, but kept fighting and managed to equalize. After the first time control, the position still remained complex.

Gukesh showcased his endgame prowess here! Alireza made a wrong decision to trade the Queens, and Gukesh didn't miss this chance - he wonderfully converted to a win.

With this win, Gukesh is the sole leader of the FIDE Candidates Tournament with 8.5/13 points! He will face Hikaru Nakamura with the Black pieces in the final round tomorrow.

@ChessNumbers As I understand, ELO kind of acknowledges players' performance uniformly throughout the past. What if we weigh the performances in past with weights decreasing (maybe exponentially?) with time difference between that game and present moment?
