This Hindu man from Sri Lanka is facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia over an alleged blasphemous Facebook comment against Prophet Muhammad, which was made in reaction to a post by a Muslim against Lord Shiva.

He deleted his comment and apologised, but he was sacked from his job in July and arrested a week later. He was initially sentenced to five years in prison, but after protests by radical mullahs, the sentence was changed to death.

The Muslim migrant who posted against Lord Shiva faced no further action after being briefly detained. He was released the next day after paying a small fine. This is how biased law works where Muslims are in the majority, even as they demand democracy wherever they go.

১৫ অক্টোবর, ২০২৪। আলিপুরদুয়ার পুলিশ জেলার জয়গাঁও থানার গুয়াবাড়ি এলাকার ঘটনা। সন্ধ্যায় চাউমিন খাওয়ানোর প্রলোভন দেখিয়ে ৭ বছরের একটি বাচ্চা মেয়েকে বাড়ি থেকে প্রায় ১ কিলোমিটার দূরে ডালডাবাড়ি মাঠে নিয়ে যায় প্রতিবেশী বাবলু মিয়া। সেখানে আগে থেকেই অপেক্ষা করছিল মজিবুল ইসলাম, মনির হোসেন ও জাইদুল ইসলাম। চার অভিযুক্ত মিলে মেয়েটির উপর নারকীয় গণধর্ষণ চালায়। এরপর প্রমাণ লোপাটের তাগিদে তাকে গলা টিপে খুন করে ঝোপের মধ্যে ফেলে রেখে পালিয়ে যায়।

পরদিন অর্থাৎ ১৬ অক্টোবর নাবালিকার মায়ের লিখিত অভিযোগের ভিত্তিতে জয়গাঁও থানায় মামলা রুজু হয়। তদন্তভার গ্রহণ করেন সাব-ইন্সপেক্টর সুবিমল বর্মন। তিনি দ্রুত তদন্তে নেমে সমস্ত তথ্যপ্রমাণ সংগ্রহ করে অভিযুক্তদের গ্রেফতার করে তদন্ত শেষে আদালতে চার্জশীট জমা করেন।

সম্প্রতি এই মামলার রায়ে মহামান্য আদালত মূল অভিযুক্ত বাবলু মিয়াকে ফাঁসির সাজা এবং মজিবুল ইসলাম, মনির হোসেন ও জাইদুল ইসলামকে আমৃত্যু সশ্রম কারাদণ্ডের নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন। পাশাপাশি নাবালিকার পরিবারের জন্য ক্ষতিপূরণেরও নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে।

A dog used to follow pilgrims to a Hindu religious site in Sri Lanka, and videos of it were shared warmly in Sri Lankan Hindu circles.

In late June, offended by the videos, a Muslim man went to the pilgrimage site, located the dog, kicked it, and uploaded the video, sparking outrage. During one such argument, a Sri Lankan Muslim wrote a derogatory post against the Hindu deity.

Anojan Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan Hindu working as a laborer in Saudi Arabia, didn't like the comment and responded with a reply that was allegedly derogatory to the Prophet.

Anojan's well-wisher immediately warned him. He took down the comment and issued a video apology within five minutes in which he said he was responding to an insult to his faith. However, it was too late. Anojan's fellow Sri Lankan Muslims had already taken a screenshot and emailed it to his employer in Saudi Arabia. His employer promptly reported it to the authorities, who arrested Anojan and put him on trial. He has been sentenced to death.

Saudi Arabia rarely reverses a decision once it has made one, but there should be global outrage over this. Blasphemy laws or whatever, the man was only responding to an insult to his faith, deleted the comment, and issued an apology within minutes, yet he will still have to pay with his life while those who provoked him are rejoicing in Sri Lanka. This is unacceptable. Anyone calling themselves a free speech supporter and not opposing this is a hypocrite of the highest order.

Some Muslim online insulted his Hindu god, so he, in turn, insulted Prophet Muhammad.

That user screenshot his comment, reported him to the authorities, got him arrested, and now he's set to be executed.
