Elise Thorner reacts to her 9:11.01 for second in the 3000m steeplechase at the Stockholm Diamond League π
It's her second quickest mark (after 9:07.39) and the fifth fastest in British history π¬π§

Victory and a big PB for Elise Thorner in the 3000m steeplechase at the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles as she clocks 9:07.39.
Thorner won by 14 seconds and going into the rest of the summer she now has Lizzie Bird's UK record of 9:04.25 in her sights.
Thorner and Bird are the only two Brits to break the 9:10 barrier in the women's 'chase.
Outstanding run by Elise Thorner in LA. Pulled right away from her field to win the 'chase in 9:07.39-- pb by 7 seconds... 2nd fastest British woman ever and seventh fastest European. Strong podium candidate at the euros off this form.
We are sad to report that Mary Rand, one of Great Britain's greatest athletes, has sadly passed away at the age of 86.
With long jump gold at the 1964 Olympics, Rand became the first British woman to top the podium in track and field at the Games.
She held the long jump world record of 6.76m βΒ set at the Olympics βΒ for four years (between 1964 and 1968).
Rand also claimed three medals (4x100m & pentathlon being the others) at Tokyo 1964.
After today's excellent decision by the IOC.,if the Rio 2016 women's 800m. was held today, the 3 medallists in my photo. Wambui, Niyonsaba & Semenya would be barred and the medals would go to Canada's Melissa Bishop, Poland's Joanna Jozwik & GB's Lynsey Sharp @AthleticsWeekly
That's six (!) British women sub-8:50 so far this year; Hannah Nuttall, Elise Thorner, Katie Snowden, Eloise Walker, Alex Millard & Innes FItzGerald (mixed gender race). Plus India Weir 8:51 tonight in Boston.
@James_Athletics So sad. Spawned from great intentions to give the top athletes the pay day they deserve. Interesting to see that MJ is owed some of the largest amounts - over $2m. His own money that he invested?
Strong finishes brought personal bests over 3000m for hannah nuttall (8:38.96) and training partner Elise Thorner (8:39.87)- in Boston.. 6th and 8th on gb all time list

Great news at last as Elise Thorner , our second fastest ever, finishes second in her steeplechase heat in a pb 9:14.37. Looked to have much in hand too.
@BrianHaining@ian_hodge8 Quite simply put they were super heroβs. To make top 24 in the world is the toughest challenge in British Athletics and cannot be compared to other events as they donβt even come close. There are just too many variables faced by the Decathlete that cannot be covered in a post.
