Let’s build a strong national movement to defend higher education. We have a lot of work ahead of us.
This is a disgrace. Shame on The New School. Firing workers without cause is always a disgrace, but to let go of tenured faculty of color and those in the humanities? Shameful
Spoke with Linda Kinstler for this new NYT Magazine piece about the California State University’s AI boondoggle. It’s a meticulous deep dive containing no hype. Dek: “California’s public university system spent $16.9 million on A.I. The result has been chaos.”

You see the display of even basic symbols expressing the dignity of our students would be an unacceptable political stance and violation of neutrality. It has nothing to do with the national environment
Faculty, alumni, and community leaders across the Texas A&M System are sounding the alarm on censorship, political interference, and attacks on academic freedom.
At the inaugural TAMU “Year in Review" discussion, speakers warned that SB 37 and System Policy 08.01 are creating fear, chilling classroom discussion, and weakening shared governance across Texas universities.
Higher education cannot thrive under political intimidation.
Speak out.
Share your stories of censorship.
Defend the freedom to teach and learn.
Support policymakers and elected officials defending academic freedom.

Thrilled to see PSC Executive Council member @DrSusanLK appointed by @NYCMayor to the Commission on Government Efficiency. Dr. Kang’s decades-long impact on helping to lead political reforms in New York and her academic credentials make her an excellent choice for COGE.
"(Our colleges & universities) are also foundational to our democracy — one of the few places where people from different backgrounds come together to engage w/ ideas, challenge assumptions ... " —@rweingarten@AFTunion & @ProfTWolf@AAUP

The NAACP and CBC have now called for a boycott of major Southern athletic programs over attacks on voting rights and representation.
No one who values diversity in higher education, and the freedom to learn should attend or play in another Texas A&M game until university leadership ends its censorship of race, gender, and sexuality in courses and recommits itself to academic freedom.
College athletics generate billions in revenue and public legitimacy. Fans, alumni, and donors have power. Use it.

“I come bearing terrible news,” graduate student Cameron Samuels told the crowd through a megaphone outside the system’s headquarters. “The University of Texas is dead. Yes, you heard that right.” 😢
Why is billionaire CEO Marc Rowan using company resources for a private political campaign attacking colleges & universities?
Our members are invested in Apollo via pension funds. We demand answers.
Texas A&M is continuing its purge of the WGST program. Faculty have now been notified that two additional courses have been canceled for the fall semester after exceptions were denied.
The pattern is becoming increasingly clear: the systematic dismantling of Women’s and Gender Studies is underway.
Texas A&M University has cancelled two sections of LGBTQ literature and one section of Intro to LGBTQ Studies for fall. The exceptions were not granted.
It is clear that the University and its new President are intent on erasing Women's & Gender Studies.

In hollowing out the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court has taken deliberate steps to deny meaningful representation for African Americans and others who have been historically disenfranchised.

This is good news for free speech rights in Texas. Professors should not lose their jobs because administrators and politicians disagree with their opinions.
Isn’t this a basic American value?
We agree with St. John’s University @AAUP and Faculty Association members—union busting is unholy.
St. John's is arbitrarily withdrawing recognition of its faculty unions, which have stood with staff for 50 years.
The future of academia needs staff voices.

New York is a union town—that means every worker deserves the right to organize.
St. John's decision to end recognition of their long-standing faculty union is deeply concerning. I stand with faculty and staff in their fight for the workplace they—and their students—deserve.
