If we want to stop a potentially devastating war between #Eritrea and #Ethiopia, we need to target the real architect of the situation: @AbiyAhmedAli. He needs to stop threatening with violence and instead negotiate sea access (NOT ownership) like every other landlocked country.

So the hospital management is more concerned about ‘city image’ rarher than public health?

The lack of transparency surrounding the Marburg virus outbreak that has been spreading in Southern Ethiopia is putting many lives at risk.
Six days after Meseret Media reported the deaths of six people in Jinka, the Ministry of Health finally issued a confirmation. Health professionals are now saying that people are continuing to lose their lives in areas like Arsi as well.
Wouldn’t it be better to release information to the public quickly so people can protect themselves?
While restricting entry to and exit from affected areas is a good step, trying to hide the situation so it doesn’t cause panic and distort public image ultimately costs people their lives.
According to confirmations obtained by Meseret Media, the following individuals have died in Huluko Kebele of Son Assako Woreda in Arsi alone:
• Ame Musa
• Sani Ahmed
• Abraham Hamido
• Abdurahman Beyan
• Mohammed Abdi Abdulla
• Muleta Ibro
• Hosena Mume
• Infant Meymuna Sana Ahmed
• Infant Marifa Mohammed
• Bitriya Kemal Mume
• Ashirefa Adem

News: #Canada warns citizens to avoid several #Ethiopian regions over security and health risks
The government of Canada has issued an updated travel advisory warning its citizens of heightened security and health risks in Ethiopia, urging them to avoid travel to several regions of the country, especially to avoid all travel to #Amhara, #Tigray, #Benishangul-Gumuz, #Gambella, #Sidama, and the following zones in the #Oromia region: #North_Shewa, West #Wollega, East Wollega, #Kellem_Wollega and #Horo_Gudru Wollega.
The advisory, published on 14 November 2025, cites ongoing civil unrest, armed conflict and rising violent crime in various parts of Ethiopia. While #Addis_Abeba is described as relatively safer than other areas, Canadian authorities still advise travellers to remain highly vigilant in the capital.
According to the advisory, the northern regions of Amhara, Tigray and Benishangul-Gumuz are classified as high-risk due to armed clashes, ethnic violence and banditry. In Amhara, armed groups are reported to be fighting government forces, with roadblocks and curfews frequently imposed. In Tigray, despite the November 2022 peace agreement, the security situation remains unstable in areas such as Mekelle and Adigrat. Benishangul-Gumuz is flagged for recurrent ethnic violence and unpredictable insecurity.
The advisory also lists Gambella and Sidama in western and southern Ethiopia as areas to avoid because of violent crime, kidnapping and the presence of armed groups. In Oromia, particularly West Wollega, East Wollega and Kellem Wollega, Canada warns of ongoing conflict between local armed groups and federal security forces and urges against non-essential travel.
Border areas with Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya and South Sudan are described as particularly dangerous, with risks including armed conflict, terrorist attacks and landmines. Travellers are advised to avoid all travel within 10 km of the #Eritrean border and within 100 km of the #Somali border.
The advisory further recommends that foreign nationals avoid demonstrations and public gatherings across the country, warning that protests linked to ethnic or political tensions can turn violent quickly. Travellers are urged to monitor local media, follow instructions from local authorities and comply with checkpoints and roadblocks.
In addition to security concerns, Canada flags health risks, including an outbreak of Marburg virus disease (MVD) confirmed by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health in Jinka, South Ethiopia, as of November 2025. Marburg virus is highly contagious and transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids, including from fruit bats, identified as the primary carriers.
