When he ran for President, Eric Zemmour, who was a political reporter for decades before becoming an opinion journalist, wrote a tell-all memoir burning all his sources and revealing what they told them off the record.
One of the most striking anecdotes is him talking in the early 2000s with centrist, politically-correct politician, whose signature policy as Minister for Urban Affairs was a 50 billion plan to beautify the "Banlieues," upgrade social housing, etc.
Zemmour asks him a bunch of critical technical questions about his plan, and eventually Borloo goes: "Look, all of that may be right, but I've postponed the civil war by twenty years."
How Mistral and Grok answer the same question:
"Was mass immigration from Morocco, Syria, and Afghanistan net positive or negative for the EU?"
Guess which AI is biased and spreading propaganda?
"Charles Martel at the Battle of Tours, 732 A.D."
Oil on canvas
This moment defined the history of Western Civilization. In 732 A.D. the armies of Islam's Umayyad dynasty controlled all of North Africa and had conquered Christian Spain. Their armies invaded southern France next, threatening to overwhelm all of Western Europe. Charles Martel was the Mayor of the Palace for the Frankish kings. He was a seasoned warrior and battlefield commander. In response to the Islamic invasion, he marshalled an army of experienced Frankish infantry & cavalry and intercepted the Muslim forces near Poitiers. The Battle of Tours (Poitiers) was decisive. The Franks withstood repeated Umayyad cavalry charges and then broke through in their own counterattack devastating the enemy and halting the Islamic incursion into Europe. Not since 480 B.C. had Western Civilization been in such peril. This painting captures that great victory. It took 10 months to complete.
Exceptionally heavy El Niño rains have triggered millions of dormant seeds beneath the soil, transforming vast stretches of one of the world’s driest regions into a spectacular carpet of flowers. 🌸🌸🌸
The Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, has been dramatically transformed following heavy rainfall in northern Chile. Areas that are typically barren and parched are now covered in vibrant violet and white blossoms, a rare natural phenomenon known as the “flowering desert.”🏵️🏵️🏵️
This is not a photograph.
Every leaf and every reflection was put there by hand, in oil, by the Danish painter Peder Mørk Mønsted in 1894.
It is called Wooded path by a river, and it captures the hardest thing there is to paint: a forest in full sunlight. Light through trees never falls evenly. It scatters into countless flecks of brightness and shadow, a glow on one leaf, darkness on the next, a glint on the water that would vanish the moment a cloud passed. Get those even slightly wrong, and the whole thing collapses into a green blur.
Mønsted got every one of them right, and in doing so he captured something anyone who has stood alone in a wood will recognize immediately: that hush that falls over you, the sense of being completely at peace, and the feeling that the whole world has paused to breathe…
A Japanese grandfather went viral for trying to take peaceful photos of his cats in beautiful settings.
Instead, the cats often end up fighting mid-shoot, turning his carefully planned portraits into scenes of chaos. 😭🐱
A new species of cat has been identified for the first time in a century—and experts think that there may be even more to discover around the world: https://t.co/woOXXxJOXB

This statue is over 2300 years old.
It's one of the very few ancient sculptures left with its original eyes, and I can’t get over how real they look...
The statue is the Antikythera Ephebe, a Greek bronze of a young man made around 340 to 330 BC, and strangely enough, the reason it survived is because it sank. In antiquity, bronze statues were constantly melted down for their metal, turned into weapons and coins, which is why almost none survive.
This one went to the bottom of the sea in a shipwreck around 60 BC and lay there for nearly two thousand years, until sponge divers found it in 1900.
But let’s go back to my favorite detail: the eyes.
When a bronze statue is made, the eyes are often set separately, inlaid with glass, stone, and colored paste to make them lifelike, and over the centuries almost every ancient bronze has lost them, leaving those hollow, blank sockets we think of as classical.
The Ephebe still has his original eyes, made of glass paste, one of only a handful of ancient Greek bronzes in the world that do. And it changes everything because he does not gaze blankly into nothing, he seems to be looking, intently, at something that vanished more than two thousand years ago...
Thomas Aquinas on the nature of Islam from the beginning:
“The point is clear in the case of Muhammad. He seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh goads us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected, he was obeyed by carnal men.
As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity. He did not bring forth any signs produced in a supernatural way, which alone fittingly gives witness to divine inspiration; for a visible action that can be only divine reveals an invisibly inspired teacher of truth. On the contrary, Muhammad said that he was sent in the power of his arms [weapons]—which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants.
What is more, no wise men, men trained in things divine and human, believed in him from the beginning. Those who believed in him were brutal men and desert wanderers, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching, through whose numbers Muhammad forced others to become his followers by the violence of his arms. Nor do divine pronouncements on the part of preceding prophets offer him any witness. On the contrary, he perverts almost all the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments by making them into fabrications of his own, as can be seen by anyone who examines his law.
It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place any faith in his words believe foolishly.”
—Thomas Aquinas, Summa Contra Gentiles I.6
