An Autistic and BCBA collaborative advocating ethical reform in ABA. Our goal is to create a world where autistic people are free to be their real selves.
@Maybe_Ketamine 🤷🏽 some of us are not okay with sitting around waiting for things to magically change. Tone policing is a tool of the oppressor which you play into.
@Maybe_Ketamine It's cool, we aren't here to be sweet.ABA causes trauma, grooms kids for abuse & actively shuts down dissent. We are here to end that. Someone who is more concerned w tone policing or #notallaba supports the system bc they care more about their own image than changing ABA
@skinnerismyBF@autistmadeleine Children are naturally ego-centric. When you use DRI/DRA it tells them they are wrong/bad for doing the other behaviors & having difficulty not doing the replacement bx that would please the adults. It doesn't give them good coping skills bc DRI/DRA focus on topography
@skinnerismyBF@autistmadeleine Hmm you requested DRI/DRA for behavior that is typically due to stress, anxiety, self regulation. In ABA none of those interventions take that into account.
@Maybe_Ketamine No worries 😊 plenty of new practitioners come into Reform and subsequently quit ABA because they saw the horrors of ABA. Ppl of privilege grip tight to that privilege & are afraid of their place at the top disturbed. Many ABA ppl are not even close to recognizing their privilege
#AskingAutistics
Do you think ABA is at all salvageable with a change to what kind of intervention/practice is utilized? Do you think it's possible for a therapist to use ABA in a positive/constructive way?
*Please note I am asking autistic people not parents, friends, etc.*
@mollyemakeup@wanderingpuck Come join us if you're on Facebook. We have SLPs in the main reform group that are pushing against SLP push to integrate with ABA. It can feel like a lonely fight, but with more numbers we can make change and be loud
@skinnerismyBF @Maybe_Ketamine Luckily we have already begun making waves of change. Ppl are quitting the field because of our work. ABA ppl are questioning things & recognizing how racist, sexist, classist & ableist ABA is and laying it bare for people to see. ABA will be forced to change or wither away.
Big ABA controls the narrative. ABA professionals are voices of privilege. Yet they will likely work to discredit this when it comes out because they can't stand an iota of dissent. Autistic people have nothing to lose. They work to stop others from being harmed.
An autistic adult is raising funds for creating a documentary on ABA - please share.

@skinnerismyBF@singularity_999 "oh come on it's just a few bad cops" "not all cops are racist"
When you uphold a broken system (ABA is ableist, sexist, racist and classist), you are part of the problem
