Today we witnessed the historic passout of the 1st cohort of 55 personnel of @nemaug Environment Protection Force at the @PoliceUg training school Kabalye. I thank HE @KagutaMuseveni the Commander In Chief, @mkainerugaba the @MODVA_UPDF CDF, @igp_ug1 Abbas Byakagaba for the unwavering support in the war against environment degradation and impunity. Together for sustainable development.

RT. HON. NABBANJA PRAISES NEMA FOR DOING A GOOD JOB
Prime Minister @R_Nabbanja has praised NEMA Executive Director Dr. @ABarirega for doing a great job in protecting Uganda’s environment.
This was during a meeting with top CEOs in government agencies at National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
The Prime Minister urged the top executives to ensure accountability, value for money on government projects and fight corruption.

I addressed the NRM Caucus today at Kololo and reminded our leaders to go back to the correct methods of the NRM, follow up Government programmes and make sure they reach our people.
This is why PDM must reach the people, while our wetlands must be protected. Those occupying them must get out. In Busoga, Bukedi and Kigezi, we shall help them move to fish farming, giving us income as well as water for irrigation.
@ABarirega Our journey towards socio-economic transformation must go hand in hand with how we care for and manage our environment. The land, water, forests, and other resources are not just part of our environment. They are foundations of life; sustainability must be an everyday thing.
#MtElgonProject: Supporting Sustainable Land Management
The Mt. Elgon Project has supported farmers in Namisindwa and Kween with Napier grass plant propagation stems and practical training in sustainable land management as the second‑season rains return.
The training featured hands‑on demonstrations in planting, manure application, and banana management, equipping communities with skills to restore land productivity and strengthen resilience.
Napier grass help land establish vegetation that supports soil and water conservation while strengthening the resilience of the Mt. Elgon landscape.
The initiative is supported by @theGEF through @UNEP

I delivered a message on the role of sustainable environment management in attaining social economic transformation of Uganda; at the ongoing retreat of Heads of Government Agencies and Board Chairpersons at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi. Without effective management of environment, we cannot attain the ten fold growth strategy.
🚨 Flash Report! 🚨
One Arrested over Wetland Degradation – Kyankwanzi District
On 22/03/2026, a joint team from Hoima EPF, EPPU, and UPDF responded to a case of wetland degradation in Kyambizi Village, Kyambizi Parish, Kiryandongo S/C, Kyankwanzi District.
The developer, Mr. Mawanda G. W., had begun creating drainage channels in preparation for a cattle farm without seeking approval from NEMA. He was arrested and detained at Kyankwanzi CPS, where he recorded a statement.
Mr. Mawanda will face legal action and be served with a Restoration Order (ERO).
Reminder: Any person who encroaches on a wetland commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding 30,000 currency points or imprisonment not exceeding 12 years, or both.
NEMA SECURES WETLAND CONVICTION
Working with Mubende Municipal Council, @nemaug secured Wilson Ntumwa’s conviction for degrading Muzizi Wetland. The Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Court in Makindye sentenced him to two years in prison and ordered him to vacate and restore it.
Protect wetlands. Stop encroachment.
“Banks should help their clients identify and manage sustainability risks rather than viewing ESG merely as another lending hurdle.” ~ Dr. @ABarirega ED, NEMA.
🇺🇬 BAMBOO TO PROTECT RIVERBANKS AND REDUCE DAM SILTING
“We intend to embark on an aggressive bamboo planting programme because bamboo stabilises soil. Bamboo stabilises the river banks.”
Water and Environment Minister Kahinda Otafiire says planting specific bamboo varieties could reduce erosion and the soil washing into dams, limiting the need for desilting.

"We have got what Europe has (the Rwenzori Mountains) and what they don't have. We have snow like they do, but we have a good climate that they don't have. It is time to act and protect our natural resources... If you're in tourism or agriculture, the people [encroaching on] wetlands are our enemies." — President @KagutaMuseveni during World Tourism Day celebrations.
Today, Uganda marks #WorldTourismDay2026 in Mbale City under the theme "Digital Agenda & AI to Redesign Tourism." 🇺🇬✨
The celebrations spotlight Eastern Uganda’s richest tourist attractions—from the majestic Mt. Elgon and Wanale Ridge to the vibrant Bamasaba culture. 🏔️🌿

Mr Museveni said protecting the wetlands and forests in the region will give the region and country at large an advantage in tourism.

I also visited the Mbale Wildlife Education Centre, which showcases Uganda’s rich wildlife and the tourism potential of Eastern Uganda. Extending such wildlife education activities to other parts of the country will bring wildlife closer to our people, especially the young generation, promote conservation and appreciation of our natural resources, encourage domestic tourism and inspire careers in tourism and conservation.
This morning, I was in Mbale City, where I officially opened the renovated Mount Elgon Hotel. The restoration has preserved this historic landmark’s architectural heritage while introducing modern hospitality facilities. The hospitality industry is an important part of the service sector, creating jobs, supporting businesses and contributing to economic growth.
Sustainability Manager at the @BOU_Official comrade Chris Mwesigwa gets himself a copy of the ESG Imperative book. The financial sector is critical in mainstreaming ESG.
Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu and other well-wishers beyond Uganda.
I have seen the millions of messages congratulating me on my 82nd birthday, led by my nuclear family members—Maama, Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience, Kyaremeera and those of my wider family of the NRM, the other Ugandans, the East Africans and those beyond East Africa. Thank you so much.
My social-media handler, Precious Kamwiine, told me that there were 8 million such messages. I thank God for the 82 years. I thank God for the peace in Uganda and the progress—agriculture, oil, other minerals, factories, etc. The present unreliable rains are a reminder that we should not take nature for granted. Those in the wetlands or forests or other protected areas, must get out so that we keep the treasure God gave us.
3RD NATIONAL CLEANING DAY - MBALE CITY!
