Its Election Day in Somaliland. Everything going well so far here in the Berbera region. Voting got underway on time in most places. The Biometric voter ID via a retina scan looks a-bit dramatic but has proven efficient. Good turnout and peaceful atmosphere thus far. Polls close 1800HrS.

Groundbreaking of a 480m deep aquifer borehole in Modogashe, Garissa County, supported by UNICEF under the More Water, More Life initiative.

The project, launched last week by Garissa Governor H.E. @Nathif_J_Adam, will provide clean, safe water to over 8,000 people.

On behalf of the Governor,the County Government of Garissa and on my own behalf, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to @UNICEFKenya for their generous support.
This project will not only provide access to clean water but will also enhance the health and wellbeing of our community.

After spending my Eid prayers with children (mainly orphans) at the Young Muslim Academy Mosque (@yma_ke), I made a courtesy call to my neighbour & an elder of Garissa County Sultan Deghow Muhumed Sambul at his residence.

One of the customs of Eid is to visit relatives, neighbours and friends. I encourage us all to continue to do so on this blessed day.

Held a meeting yesterday with Mr. John Otieno, the new RC for North Eastern. In addition to welcoming him to the region & to his Garissa headquarters, our broad discussions covered number of issues including enhancing county government support for security related activities. 1/2

I joined EAC, ASALs & Regional Development CS @rebecca_miano & PS @IdrisDokota during Press briefing on drought situation. Both levels of Government, with support of development partners, private sector, non-state actors & ordinary Kenyans, are scaling up response interventions.
