i think the worst pain ever is watching someone you love being put in a grave and covered with sand knowing you’re never seeing them again in this life and there’s nothing you can do about it, absolutely nothing. Innalillahi wainna ilayhi rajiun
This question has got me thinking ever since I saw it. I believe I should say something about it.
I understand the feeling we have when we look at the terrifying scale of the cosmos. And it is only logical to think about how it could have been built in 6 days. On the surface, it feels mathematically impossible. However, I know that this conflict only exists because we subconsciously force God (an infinite creator) into a finite human clock.
To answer this properly, we need to arrive at a consensus. Both the Quran and the Bible agree that the Almighty God created the heavens and earth in 6 days. If we agree to this, then we can move forward.
First of all, we need to deconstruct time itself. A standard day is defined by one rotation of the Earth facing the Sun. However, how do we measure the first phases of creation using a 24-hour earthly clock when the Earth and the Sun did not even exist yet? We all know that Time is a physical construct bound by gravity and mass. God created time. Therefore, he is not trapped inside it.
Then we need to go into the scriptures to understand the word “Day” itself. The Quran, which was revealed in classical Arabic, used the word "Yawm." The Bible (in Hebrew) used the word "Yom". Both Yawm and Yom share the same ancient Semitic root.
Today, people restrict these words to a normal day. But in the actual ancient Semitic usage, both terms meant a distinct epoch, a long era, or a defining phase of time. In fact, the Quran defines this relativity internally. In Surah Al-Hajj (22:47), Allah says a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of your counting.
When we go further into history, the answer becomes even clearer. Augustine of Hippo, one of the most authoritative theologians in the entire history of Christianity, addressed this very question in his work “The Literal Meaning of Genesis.” Mind you, he wrote this book in the fourth century, which is more than 1500 years before any modern cosmology existed. He stated clearly that the days of Genesis should not be read as ordinary solar days. He argued that the human mind cannot fully comprehend what kind of days those were, since the sun had not yet been created to measure them by.
If we come further to Islamic theology, Imam al-Tabari, in his Jami al-Bayan, recorded the positions of Ibn Abbas and Mujahid from the earliest generations of Islam. They explicitly stated that the six days of creation were not earthly days but rather each day was equivalent to a thousand years of human reckoning. This was the position of the first generation of Islamic scholars.
Interestingly, Imam Al-Qurtubi in Al-Jami li Ahkam al-Quran stated the philosophical reason behind it all. He explained that God could have created everything in a single fraction of a second with the command “Be.” He said that the Almighty built it in six stages to teach His creation the concept of deliberation, order, and the law of cause and effect, which has been the driving force of all innovation and discovery ever since the inception of man.
After all I’ve said, it is safe to say that we land in one common spot:
(1) That the word “Day” is not literal in the modern sense.
(2) That the human clock cannot accurately measure cosmic creation because it is a logical impossibility to use a solar clock to measure the universe before the sun was even formed. Time is relative, and the Creator is not bound by the physical constraints of it.
(3) That the titans of ancient theology established this understanding centuries before modern cosmology existed.
(4) That the six stages represent divine order and a deliberate choice to establish the laws of physics and teach creation the concept of process, structure, and deliberation.
I hope this answers your question, Oladele.
Qiyam Al-Layl, or the night prayer, is among the most noble acts of worship and a confirmed Sunnah encouraged by numerous verses of the Quran and Hadith. It refines the heart, strengthens faith, and connects the servant intimately with his Lord. Allah Almighty addressed His Prophet ﷺ saying, “O you wrapped in garments! Stand (to pray) all night, except a little — half of it or a little less than that, or a little more; and recite the Quran in a slow, pleasant tone. Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word. Indeed, the rising by night is most effective for governing the soul and most suitable for understanding the Word of Allah.” [Al-Muzzammil 73:1–6]. Through this command, Allah establishes that Qiyam Al-Layl nurtures discipline, purifies the soul, and prepares one for the responsibilities of faith.
Allah praises the believers who leave their beds to call upon Him in humility and hope, saying, “Their sides forsake their beds to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (in charity) out of what We have bestowed on them. No soul knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.” [As-Sajdah 32:16–17]. This verse shows the great secret between the servant and his Lord — that moments of quiet devotion at night are rewarded with unseen joy in the Hereafter. Similarly, Allah describes the righteous as “those who spend the night in worship of their Lord, prostrating and standing,” [Al-Furqan 25:64] and continues to list their noble traits, ending with the promise that “Those will be rewarded with the highest place in Paradise because of their patience.” [Al-Furqan 25:75–76].
The Quran also highlights that the people of Taqwa — the pious — are characterized by their devotion at night, “They used to sleep but little by night, invoking their Lord with fear and hope.” [Adh-Dhariyat 51:17]. These descriptions are not merely poetic; they affirm that Qiyam Al-Layl is a defining feature of the true believer, a deed that softens the heart and shields the soul from sin. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the prayer at night.” (Muslim, 1163). He also said, “You should pray Qiyam Al-Layl, for it was the practice of the righteous before you; it brings you closer to your Lord, expiates sins, and prevents misdeeds.” (At-Tirmidhi, 3549).
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that Qiyam brings both spiritual rank and moral refinement. A man once asked, “O Messenger of Allah, if I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are His Messenger, and I perform the five daily prayers, fast Ramadan, pay Zakah, and perform Qiyam in Ramadan — what will be my status?” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “Whoever dies doing that will be among the truthful and the martyrs.” (Ibn Khuzaymah, authenticated by Al-Albani). This noble act thus leads one to the ranks of the most honored servants of Allah.
In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said, “In Paradise there are apartments whose inside can be seen from the outside and whose outside can be seen from the inside.” When asked for whom they are, he replied, “For those who speak good, feed others, fast regularly, and pray at night while people sleep.” (At-Tirmidhi, 1984). In yet another Hadith, Jibril (peace be upon him) told the Prophet ﷺ, “O Muhammad, live as long as you wish, for you will die; love whom you wish, for you will part; do what you wish, for you will be recompensed. Know that the believer’s honor is in his praying at night, and his dignity is in his independence from people.” (Al-Hakim; authenticated by Al-Albani).
An easy way to answer this is to zoom out of one’s life a bit, and replay it like a movie.
Has it always been the same? Has it been downhill since birth? Watch the trends, there were dips and there were peaks and that’s the summary of life… It dips, but it also peaks…
Alright, Let me explain what happen with the Sukuk bonds and what to expect.
FG wants to borrow only N300bn but they have received N2.2 trillion instead of the N300bn.
That means they are going to refund the remaining N1.9 trillion to investors using pro rata basis.
In simple english, this is what would happen:
Proration means each investor will receive only a fraction of what they applied for, based on their share of the total subscriptions.
Example;
You applied to invest N200 million worth of Sukuk.
Total amount generally applied = N2.205 trillion
Available Sukuk = N300 billion
Pro rata ratio = Available/Subscribed
N300bn / N2.2 trillion = 14%
This means each investor may get 14% of what they applied for. (see image below for different example)
So, since you applied for N200 million worth of Sukuk, what you will get is;
N200 million x 14% = N27.2 Million
You will be allocated N27 million worth of Sukuk and the remaining N173 million would be refunded to you.
1. Investor would be refunded the excess cash
2. DMO may use pro rata approach (which is widely acceptable method) to refund the excess or they may do some tweak and favour retail investors to give them a slightly better allocation rate and encourage further participation in the near future.
3. Oversubscription shows confidence and liquidity availability in the economy. (MPR - 27.5% may not be reduce. people are very liquid)
4. I believe this oversubscription would further give the FG confidence to proceed with the $2bn domestic borrowing they are already planning.
Attached is a sample analysis of how the allocation might be.
Disclaimer: This is just a basic approach and does not refer to the exact approach that DMO may use.
