Filing a Motion on Notice to discharge him unconditionally could help the situation.

In 2023/4, I handled cases of people who had been abandoned in Oko Prison, Benin City, since 2016. We could not trace their files and the Court that remanded them. The Police and the DPP could not account for their files.

I filed a Motion on Notice urging the Court to discharge them unconditionally, and they were granted. Upon granting my Applications, the Court prepared fresh Release Warrants together with the enrollment order of the Court for the Prison to release them. I personally drove the Court officials to the Prison, where I received the young men after their release.

Another option is to write to the Chief Judge of the State and take steps to present the young man's case during the annual Prison visit by the Chief Judge and other Judges of the High Court.

I believe you will get the desired results.

If I could go back to when I was maybe 25 or 30... This is the advice I'd give myself because I see the leaks in my world today and hope someone learns from it.

1. STAY.

Stay when nobody is clapping.

Stay when the idea stops being sexy.

Stay during boring operational years.

Stay long enough to develop managers.

Stay long enough to build systems.

Stay long enough for compound effects to appear.

And when something truly is dead:

end it completely.

Don’t keep dead projects on emotional life support.

2. Don't be like me... I divided my money, attention, emotional energy, time, and leadership across too many futures... and none of them received enough concentrated force for long enough.

Five promising things can leave you poorer than one or two boring things that compound for ten years.

You might be a man with great ideas and crazy ambitions but:

Let ONE become the main mission. It gets the overwhelming majority of your serious building energy.

ONE may remain secondary only if it is cheap to maintain and doesn’t compete with the first.

Everything else gets one of four words: PAUSE, DELEGATE, SELL, or END.

Choosing one does not mean the others were stupid... It means you finally understand opportunity cost.

Many of you who are just like me do not need another beginning... You need a completion.

Those who know me too well or have worked with me will tell you one truth: “If a project stresses SPIRIT, that project is RIP... It doesn't take him time to raze down the structure and vanish.”

When I was at the @NhrcNigeria there was the incident in which security forces killed over a dozen young men at night in a building in Apo, Abuja & branded them terrorists.

It turned out they lied against the dead. It took work by the Commission to grant the young men posthumous exoneration & their families, closure & compensation.

When you find 37 young people dead suddenly in a detention facility, the 1st thing is not to pronounce them a bunch of illegals. It takes complicity, cover-up or criminality to do that.

I now understand all the dead in this matter have already & hurriedly been buried. There has been no inquiry. The Governor has already convicted them. They are not in a position to defend themselves.

The families of these dead victims, say that when @official_NSCDC arrested them, each family were told to go and bring 500k each to bail their child.

Earlier today, @official_NSCDC personnel in Minna reportedly turned their guns on protesters approaching the NSCDC command HQ in Minna, the Niger State capital.

It is callous for the Governor of Niger State to announce without inquiry or investigation, that these victims are "illegal miners".

Indeed, under the Coroner's Act, when a death happens in a detention centre, a coroner's inquiry is mandatory & the dead cannot be buried without a court order. When 37 are found dead in detention, the obligation of investigation & inquiry is unavoidable.

But that is what @HonBago wants to avoid.

Let's be clear: what this Niger State Governor has done is unlawful. In all likelihood it is also criminal.

Understand Billing. Know WHEN to bill, WHO to bill and HOW to bill. Billing is not about money, it’s about value, and this is part of your professional identity.

Not all client pays and not everyone can strictly be categorised as clients. So it is totally impossible to get paid by everyone.

The key point to note is that for every piece of work you do, irrespective of whether it is free or discounted, produce an invoice and a receipt, even when the client pays no dime and ensure the client receives a copy.

Pro bono services, parents, family, friends, always issue an invoice, then on that invoice and receipt, discount it, write it off or mark it as probono and issue it to the client.

When people do not see a figure, they do not register the cost of what they received in their minds. A favour with no invoice is invisible. A favour with an invoice that was graciously written off is memorable. This is not about money. This is about your perceived value.

If you bill 250k and choose to accept 50k, the client must understand the actual value of the service, the concession you made, and the generosity behind that concession.

Later, when that client refers someone to you, they won’t say he charges 50k, they will say “his fee is 250k, but he took 50k from me because we’re friends. I don’t know if he will give you the same rate, but I can speak to him on your behalf.”

Your discounted client or friend becomes one of your most accurate marketing tools because you gave them the correct number to work with. They understand the value they received, and the next person approaches you knowing your actual rate, not the discounted rate someone else happened to receive.

That is how you preserve rate integrity.

You may discount your fee.
You may waive your fee.
You may work pro bono.

But never allow a concession to redefine the value of your work. Always document your work and always communicate its value.

why will a boy of 13-15 years be involved in digging and packing sands for sale if the government has not failed us in their promises and responsibilities.

The hardship is real, economy is eating us all, whilst most of us can endure, some of these children are vulnerable and with a little influence from friends, they might be recruited to all of these things.

Back to their detention, the big whole personnel as at when they were detained are culpable of homicide, coz these questions are begging for answers.
1. Why will over 50 people be locked up in a small cell with little to no ventilation?
2. Who was guarding them at the time of the incident?
3. Were their medical records taken to ascertain they might be disease prone as the NSCDC reported it to be outbreak?
4. Someone said they were crying for help, why were they ignored?
5. Were they properly fed during the time of detention?
6. Were they pre-exposed to some chemicals whilst they were mining, before they were detained?
7. when the alarm begins of their uneasy, which officer was on duty and why wasn't medical attention given as soon as possible?

These are some of the questions that need to be investigated and everyone involved is brought to book.

A thorough investigation must be conducted if we are to be honest with ourselves, the mining is illegal but allowing children to die in your custody is not just unprofessional but homicidal.
