Senior Director of Consulting @fundjournalism, working on audience, membership, and product strategies with newsrooms | Former PM & audience editor ✨ she / her
🧵 I'm often asked how I feel about the ~state of journalism~ and our industry's future. Like others, I see the challenges facing our field and the things that must change for us to collectively survive. But I also see lots of bright spots, so here is a thread of those ✨
& if you run a survey: don't just review the data and then let it sit idly in your Google Drive forever. Use the feedback to make changes and decisions, and talk about that with your audience. Let them know their feedback inspired real action—that's how you build trust. (8/8)
🧵 One of my favorite aspects of my job is running audience surveys with newsrooms, because I get the chance to learn what thousands of people think about journalism and paying for news. The insights are illuminating, individually and across the industry 👇
You can learn more about how we use surveys at the Hub, and what we've learned over 8 years of executing surveys with newsrooms big and small, old and new, for profit and non profit, here: (7/) https://t.co/28IAwm6hlV
I'm very privileged to work with the organizations mentioned in this thread and many others through @fundjournalism, and their work and wins inspire me each day. Read more good news and success stories on our website: https://t.co/a3K915ZPSL

People are hungry for news and information they can use and want to support it! That's not to say it's not hard work for journalism outlets to succeed, but it is possible. And there are success stories and lessons all around us, they're just often overshadowed by the bad news.
I know everyone is getting flooded with donation appeals but I really would appreciate any love for @ChalkbeatCO this Colorado Gives Day. It’s not just their stellar work, but their thoughtfulness and their desire to always go above and beyond for readers that’s really striking.
Just a few of the rewarding projects I've worked on in 2023:
- Helping @berkeleyside launch a new newsletter
- Collaborating with the great folks at the @TexasTribune to help them get more reader revenue
- Running a session at @ONA's annual conference on smart goal setting
I'm hiring for my team at @fundjournalism ! If you're passionate about building a better future for journalism and you enjoy problem solving, coaching, and a combination of collaborative and independent work: apply! $75k salary; remote ✨

I've worked at the Hub for three years after I left an audience editor role in a newsroom. It's been a wonderful place to work and my DMs are open if you have questions about this job and working here!
