Sadly some have conflated those “Christian” values with nationalism, racism, xenophobia, partisanism, etc and think it’s Christianity. And as they invest in their strongman with their win “by any means necessary” approach they blind themselves to what Christ is doing.

Jews wanted the savior to be a strongman and dismissed Christ becuase he didn’t meet their worldly expectations. I’m afraid American evangelicals have done the same but see Trump as the strongman that “Christianity” needs to fight the culture war for them.

The kingdom doesn’t come by strongman ideology - this very idea of what The Kingdom come would be like in this world is the very thing that caused folks to be blind to the fact that Jesus was actually the savior they waited for. Why? They wanted a Strongman!

But we don’t want that type of Christianity... Why? Becuase America has taught us that Christianity always wins here; It’s those other poor countries/nations that actually persecute their Christians - not us. Now that power is slipping they compromise biblical ethics to keep it

If this was about Jesus then we would understand that Christianity NEVER EVER needed cultural and political power in order to thrive; in fact the wonder was that God caused it to thrive in the midst of those who sought to explicitly stomp it out.

The problem is that folks want worldly and cultural POWER and they use Christianity to get it by proxy. Evangelicals had it but now that it’s slipping away you are starting to see that it was never mainly about Jesus more than it was about power.
