All the luck and talent in the world and people think he’s still going to be on par with Thiem and Medvedev if he wins this. This is his SECOND chance at a draw collapse, he actually has experience of this
2020 - The first at Roland Garros since Rafael Nadal (2010), Alexander Zverev is the first player to reach a Grand Slam final without facing an ATP top 20 opponent en route since...Alexander Zverev (US Open 2020). Survivalist.

@flatedges Serious question- what about the Russian athletes who aren’t paid for by the government and who spoke out against their government? Because that’s what happened in tennis, and most people treat that as though it’s the same
I’m going to be contrary here and say I really don’t like this answer. The separation of sports and politics in the US is only at the point of funding - the flag and national anthem are still used, and plenty of athletes are celebrated through the political system anyway.
“It's hard, because a lot of these Russian athletes-it's not their fault. They didn't start it [the war]. But unfortunately, they're connected through their federation. Their federation is connected to, and sponsored by, the Russian government. So there are direct ties. Whereas U.S. Figure Skating is its own entity. It does not receive government funding. So that is where things get muddy and complicated.”
͢ On the Russian ban.
I would also add that the lack of funding also means private sponsors who are linked to actions of concern, including Amber’s, which is direct if that’s her concern
Money isn’t everything. This is often used as an excuse for American athletes and I just don’t think it’s as valid as some think it is. Amber, thankfully, doesn’t separate sport and politics in her actions, but I don’t think this is a great answer either.
@minidisc0 This is like saying there’s a weird anti-intellectualism around marketing. It’s a specific and effective skill and can be misunderstood, but people also need to question when and how that skill is necessary
Ilia Malinin spoke about Olympic Team Event in an interview with Dazed:
"- And let’s not forget, you did come home with a gold medal in the team event.
Ilia Malinin: Yeah. And I think that just showed I really put more into my team and sacrificed my individual event to go out there, you know, and do it for the team and give them that Olympic [gold] medal. So I’m gonna brag about it; I want people to understand that I put all of my risk into that team event."

I absolutely adore his commitment to showing everyone how stupid American indoor environmental controls are. When I lived in DC over winter it was 24C in my apartment and I couldn’t change it
I bet whoever made this video last month sparking huge discourse on both fstt and fstwt about what is a "true" salchow is smiling ear to ear right now.
It looks like the French Open is going to come down to Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Zverev.
Here’s why it’s a battle a lot of people will hope he loses.

perhaps the ghost of ulrich salchow curses your faves bc they are besmirching his legacy with those cheated takeoffs. maybe nathan took an ice pick and created that hole in the ice in protest. would it have affected someone with a traditional salchow? much to consider.
I think a few players being consistently good at clay has made people forget that clay is a chaos agent. You’re rolling around like a dog in the dirt. Every bounce is a bad bounce. Gerry please default me
