Sensitive Fern is native to North America and a wetland indicator. Early American settlers noticed that it was very sensitive to frost. The Daddy Long Legs (on it) is not a mosquito or spider, but an arthropod also known as a harvestman but can't bite or sting. #abbottmarshlands
Happy #PhotoFriday! Recently, DRBC staff joined @fishandboat & others to sein (catch w/net) for young-of-year American shad in the #DelawareRiver at Phillipsburg, NJ. This effort is run by the Delaware River Basin Fish & Wildlife Management Cooperative; DRBC is a liaison member.
Shad born in the river in spring travel ⬇️stream in fall, heading for the ocean. This effort helps track their numbers & that of other fish species. Pic #1 is a young-of-year shad, #2 is a rock fish. All fish were returned to the #DelawareRiver after being identified & measured.
