I know that there’s no real difference between today and tomorrow but damn if i’m not a slut for the symbolism of it all! a blank page! a fresh start!! new year new me!!!!
Our guest lecturer, Deb Pierce, discussed the progression of persuasion and communication and how much people participate in these facts. Referring to health, do you think people would be more likely to respond to facts that negatively or positively impact health? #304 #UWJ201
In Webinar this morning, a main discussion topic was digital security/safety within the parameters in the pandemic. Largely, the safer badger app and the medical security/location services enabled. How do you feel about location tracking for COVID contact tracing? #UWJ201 #304
@jackjensenuw @dpstevensWI I also find it interesting discussing the persuasion on long-term behaviors but not long-term attitudes, such as creating new unconscious habits that you can subconsciously get from friends or family but not change your original perception of the situation.
Discussing the central versus peripheral processing routes of persuasion, for everyday usage, do you think you run across one more than the other? Does the amount of exposure to these different models affect the way you respond to the process? #304 #UWJ201
Does the location/environment we were raised in affect our political/ethical beliefs forever, or can we significantly change to an opposite political party based on proximity to our parents? #UWJ201 #304
@azrafbak This statement is definitely accurate- the information is so readily available and convenient for the public. If people commenting are well-researched on the topic, I think it is an excellent way to gather the community’s feelings and look for new perspectives. #UWJ201 #304
@keiper_maggie I agree, but I do think the problem that leads to the third person and hostile media effect is people choose not to educate themselves, and by leaning into that partially biased news information, there comes the perception that the data is against them and unfair. #UWJ201 #304
After learning more about third person effect and hostile media, I learned media may be mostly unbiased but our perception turns it either for or against us. So can media truly serve only facts to all political parties of everyone sees the information differently? #UWJ201 #304
@kate_gehringer I find that stories disputing my original perceptions stick with me through my day. For me, it’s because I enjoy analyzing why others are in my position, yet have different viewpoints. It’s interesting that everyone has their own reasoning why stories stuck with them. #304
Thinking about fact checking and determining valid information, I wonder if news channels and tv shows will lose some consumers. Some consumers watch the news to hear the lies and false information politicians/ people in power spread. #UWJ201 #304
@EmmaGoshin I agree, I think that the hostile media has such negative consequences in our environment. I don’t think it does much more that further separate political parties and negate the opportunity for opposite views to work together. #304
I found it interesting this week learning how cultivation can change a persons opinion, but can also largely affect the way they think and act. How many of the news articles or social media posts we look at unconsciously affect our behavior without us noticing? #UWJ201 #304
@AnnabelBridges7 I completely agree- it is almost more frightening that the people with higher education have less of an open mind and smaller news spectrum than those more uneducated when you would assume the opposite. #UWJ201 #304
The semi-popular opinion of gathering news solely from social media outlets not only prevents up-to-date information but is infamous for relying inaccurate and facetious information on important topics such as COVID-19 or the political agenda. #UWJ201 #304
Through the the first writing assignment, I realized how much media doesn’t just affect our perspective of the news, but actually channels what we see and when we see it. I also noticed how much of that news information came right from my phone, rather than the tv. #UWJ201 #304
