@be_homestead Hi! Have you ever read Educated by Tara Westover? She had an upbringing kinda like this and does a wonderful job describing her experience.
Idk why people are complaining about @NoahKahan’s set list?? As someone who was there, it was so good! Like we got Orange Juice and Orbiter! (would I have liked Maine? Yes. But I can live without it 😅)
The problem isn’t with empathy, which is a vital human virtue, but rather in its selective application. Just as we wouldn’t call love a sin because we might be stingy in our love, empathy isn’t a sin because its application is incomplete.
Or, put another way, our problem isn’t with too much empathy, but too little. https://t.co/GSQggbPkvK
The doctor who did the C-section on my mom to deliver me wasn’t a real doctor. He was using a dead doctor’s credentials and got arrested later for it… he also delivered my older sister
@coulterculture@cristela9 So growing up, we had an oven that was broken but the stove still worked. The heating element can go out in the oven but that doesn’t affect the stove top! We also cooked plenty of things on the stove top but couldn’t bake things like cookies
@MalcolmMiddleX Yes, I said that. Thanks for sharing the article! It even points out that saving the Jews wasn’t the focus of the US government’s war effort, so again I wouldn’t expect that to be a focus of the movie
Captain America The First Avenger takes place in 1942. US intelligence knew some about the “holocaust” (in quotations b/c it wasn’t widely called that until the 50s) but didn’t know the extent of the atrocities until the Allies liberated concentration camps after the war
Also supplies cost money. As a kid we didn’t always have money to be fully stocked. Even now, it’s a bit of a financial strain to buy supplies and be fully prepared, like batteries are EXPENSIVE, not to mention fuel
When I was a kid, my parents ensured us that by the time hurricanes hit us, they would be so weakened, they would be tropical storms and wouldn’t cause much damage. I live in Florida, and until recently, this was the case. We’d only get water and supplies right before it hit
I am very sympathetic to those slammed by Helene, and I pray for their safety and recovery. At the same time, how is it that in 2024, people who live in the paths of hurricanes STILL DON'T HAVE FOOD SUPPLIES? Not even for a few days? No water supplies? No backup fuel? That seems incredibly ill-prepared given the state of our world today. I pray for these people, but I also pray that more people would have the sense to practice some basic level of preparedness. I will always help those in need, but we also need people to stop living under the delusion that nothing will ever go wrong and that food, water, fuel, comms, medicine, banks, etc., will NEVER have disruptions. S##t happens. Repeatedly. Prepare for it. Expect it.
