We went to the next bar… then the next. At one point they ordered whiskey and I was panicking — ‘No no no, no mixing! Only beer!’
I was absolutely mullered.
We finally came out and it was dark. My watch said 4 o’clock, so I phoned my ex-wife in a panic to apologise for being out so late.
‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise the time…’
She replied, ‘What are you talking about?’
I thought it was 4am. It was 4pm.
That was my welcome to Newcastle.”
