Removing the residential criteria for EWS would enable the full utilization of the 10% EWS quota. This could also reduce the Open Merit (OM) cutoff by allowing eligible candidates to compete under the EWS category instead of Open Merit.

We interviewed 50 students. Of the 30 general category students, 25 had parents working as labourers or drivers. Among the 20 reserved category students, 17 had parents who were government employees. This is the ground reality many general category families are facing today.
