Senator,
My county's local memorial is far more meaningful and respectful than what has been proposed here. Please stop convincing yourself that this design truly "gives service a lasting place in stone and steel."
The fact that so many members of Congress, Gold Star families, and Global War on Terror veterans have voiced serious concerns should tell you something. Why are so many of those most connected to this conflict expressing outrage while you continue to defend a design that so many find inadequate?
The Global War on Terror spanned more than two decades and involved immense sacrifice. Thousands gave their lives, tens of thousands returned home carrying physical and emotional wounds, and countless families continue to bear the cost of that service every day.
A national memorial should honor that sacrifice with dignity, meaning, and permanence. Instead, this proposal has left many veterans and families feeling ignored and unheard.
This memorial, as currently designed, falls far short of what those who served deserve.
Senator, I believe you are on the wrong side of this issue. I hope you will listen to the veterans, families, and service members speaking out and reconsider your position before a final decision is made.
Most importantly, a local county memorial should never surpass a national memorial in its ability to honor sacrifice. Yet that is exactly how many people feel when comparing this proposal to memorials found in communities across the country. The men and women who served in the Global War on Terror deserve a national memorial that sets the standard, not one that falls behind it.
After two decades of sacrifice in the Global War on Terror, this memorial gives that service a lasting place in stone and steel alongside our nationโs great war memorials.
It ensures those who answered the call after 9/11 are never forgotten.๐บ๐ธ
This is the dumbest shit Iโve ever seen. And what happens when society becomes overly decadent, it becomes stupid.
We donโt want to honor the fallen โsymbolicallyโ. We want to honor them literally.
Why is this such a hard concept for you to grasp? Is it not sexy enough for you?
Not cool enough for you?
If any of you are actual war veterans, then you would know that our brothers and sisters are only REALLY dead when we stop saying their names.
You donโt even start saying their names though. You donโt want to fucking say them at all.
Nobody cares about stupid โfootstepsโ where we can โwalk beside them.โ
Stop overthinking this shit. Youโre just pissing us all off even more.
Iโm thankful for you though. Because my living brothers and sisters havenโt been this united on something since 9/11.
Now go back to the drawing board and unite us again; THE RIGHT WAY.
This thing sucks in its current form.
I have spoken.
If you hated the GWOT Memorial design, please make sure to fill out this survey. If we have learned anything, it's that we always have to use our voices. We wont get change if we are silent.
To be Chrystal Clear.
There is now bipartisan/ bicameral to stop this proposed Jazz Hands monument to our fallen brothers and sisters.
You are now officially on notice @GWOTMF, you will be head organizationally and personally accountable if you proceed with abomination.
@Johnny_Joey
This design is a disappointing landscape feature better suited to a hotel courtyard or mini golf course than a monument to the courageous men and women who fought and the lives lost to radical Islamic terrorism.
There are American designers ready and willing to inspire their countrymen and honor those who served. Letโs start over and hire one of them.
@SenatorBanks@AdamJarchow I am having the โdesignโ team come over to The Hill with renderings of this abomination including a full explanation of their decision chain and funding.
It would be great to have you there.
