Postdoc & Damon Runyon Fellow in Matthew Meyerson’s lab @DanaFarber @broadinstitute, @harvardmed. I study genomics & host-microbe interactions in cancer.
1/🧵 For the last several years, I have been working on a topic rife with controversy: robust characterization of the cancer microbiome. Today, my pan-cancer, multi-kingdom analysis of the cancer microbiome is available online at Cell.

At the @cityofhope symposium, NIH Director Bhattacharya, who appeared on video, said he envisions emphasizing clinical research in the role of the microbiome in cancer.

As stirrings rise of a cancer “moonshot” focused on the relationship between the human microbiome and cancer, @cityofhope’s Marcel van den Brink says this is the perfect time for such an influx of support.

Today in Nature Microbiology, we discuss the past, present, and future of the "cancer microbiome" -- especially timely in light of recent analyses by @AbrahamGihawi and @YuchenGe1, who offer a more rigorous path forward for understanding tumor microbiomes (and the lack thereof!).
Say hello to a new class of Damon Runyon Fellows! We’re honored to announce these thirteen remarkable postdoctoral scientists who are joining our #braveandbold mission to advance cancer research.

Congrats to @NiranjanTW, @cedriccstan, and
@minghao_chia on a very important negative result! This may finally put the dubious "blood microbiome" hypothesis to bed. However, the evidence for transient bacteriemia (esp. F. nucleatum!) in healthy individuals is very intriguing!
We find no evidence of a blood microbiome as a growing number of recent papers have suggested!
Painstaking work sifting through whole genome sequencing data of 9,770 healthy individuals by @cedriccstan & @minghao_chia to remove contamination artefacts.

Happy to present our new work @NatureMedicine, a close collaboration between @Elinav_DKFZ and @Elinav_Lab@WeizmannScience, describing the fascinating and surprising impacts of the #microbiome on CAR T immunotherapy in humans suffering of intractable lymphoma. Kudos to our
