Suthra Punjab, inside news.
Interviewed a boy for a house help position. He worked in Suthra Punjab for a while. Here’s what he told me:
He paid a 30k bribe to get the job.
His supervisor used to deduct 6k from his salary each month.
He lost his job when a high ranking officer
Geo Fact Check’s Maha Kanwal filed a Right to Information request with the CM Punjab office regarding Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s visit to COP30 in Brazil in Nov 2025, following claims that unofficial individuals and family members accompanied the delegation.
Thread:
As a taxpaying citizen, I have a question: What exactly are we paying for?
For years I have been paying my electricity bills on time. My gas bills on time. My internet bills on time. Every tax deducted from my salary and added to every purchase — also paid on time.
Yet this is what I get in return:
- Load shedding : Hours of no electricity daily and bills keep rising.
- Sui gas shortage : No gas during cooking hours.
- Slow internet : Pages don’t load, calls drop, work gets delayed. Even though my ISP bill is cleared every month.
- Burden of regional war, oil crisis, traffic jams, vip routes and lock down.
We are told shortages happen because people don’t pay. I pay. My neighbors pay. Millions pay. If theft and line losses are the issue, why is the burden on those who already pay?
If the dollar crisis is the issue, why are essential services for citizens the first to be cut? If infrastructure is old, why are new taxes easier than actual upgrades?
As a civilian widow and journalist I am not entitled for any concession. Paying citizens are not asking for luxury. We are asking for the basics we already fund: light when we flip the switch, gas when we turn on the stove, internet when we log in for work. Really need some peace in life.
How Pakistani taxation works:
Suppose you are a company and you suffer a loss of PKR 1 billion on a turnover of PKR 10 billion. Even then, you will still have to pay minimum / turnover tax at 1.25% of turnover.
On PKR 10 billion turnover, that comes to PKR 125 million in tax despite making a loss.
One can still argue that this is fair because the state needs revenue to run its affairs, agree!. Also, technically, this minimum tax is adjustable against future profits, so in a way it is like an interest-free loan to the government.
But our brilliant-minded babus (in the business tax-friendly move 😀) instead of bringing more people into the tax net, conveniently reduced the period for future adjustment of this tax from 5 years to 3 years in 2022, and in the last budget from 3 years to 2 years.
So if a company suffers continuous losses for 2-3 years for any reason, its first year's minimum tax payment, which is effectively a loan in other words, may simply expire and be lost forever.
Magic.
This loadshedding reminds of Pakistan's darkest 2009 - 2014 era when we faced 6 to 14 hours of loadshedding in big cities and 10 to 18 hours in rural areas. Curse to ruling elite that has destroyed poor and Middle class. No one can afford 370 rp ltr petrol and insane bills.
Let there be an urgent Constitutional Amendment
Also declare Force Majure in contracts with IPPs and terminate those contracts unilaterally backed by State Power. Only option left to take Pakistan out of Capacity Payment Fraud going in with IPPs. Take them Head On . Do it once for the sake of this country.
SKMH refused treatment for my father who later passed away but you won’t see me complaining because SKMH has a criteria that they follow when taking on patients.
My family despite the refusal only had extremely good things to say about the hospital. Stop politicising an extremely well run & world class institution 🙏🏽
SKMH only treats patients who are (1) not stage 4 (2) their cancers haven’t spread to other organs
What kind of tweet is this? Whats india supposed to do? Let dams overflow? Flood their own country? Its our fault for not having a way to store all this incoming water and not keeping river sides and waterways clear of societies for water to freely flow through.
Difference between capital cities;
Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi some 25 years ago was non-existent.
today Lahore is at least 25 years ahead of Karachi and Peshawar.
All three ruled by one party each -
no amount of spin can change who developed and who destroyed their cities.
Social media has misguided you into thinking that only expensive travel, clothes and expensive food are luxuries. Meanwhile biggest luxury is health. The moment you are sick everything gets meaningless. Even if you ask for smth before life, ask for health.

The cities in Pakistan are becoming uninhabitable if the temp is reaching 50 degrees. It is only going to get warmer with more and more concrete. AC won’t help in 10 years. Plant trees.
