📢 CTO Notes: How We Killed a 42-Second Login

Sharing a technical deep-dive from our CTO — how we preemptively rebuilt Eternex's architecture from MVP to production-ready in just 2 months, without waiting for real traffic to break everything.

📈 Load testing revealed a harsh truth: a single-threaded Node.js setup with synchronous operations turned a 5-step user flow into an 80-second nightmare of timeouts.

What's inside:
✅ New stack: Node cluster + BullMQ, PostgreSQL on Prisma, Redis, monitoring via Prometheus/Grafana
✅ Login: 42s → 333ms — a detective story involving bcrypt's thread pool, PgBouncer, and Event Loop blocking
✅ N+1 problem solved: 301 DB queries → 3, a 15.7x speedup
✅ Async video uploads: server response 10x faster (6.9s → 0.67s)

Key takeaway: real bottlenecks can't be found by reading code alone — they only surface under mixed load, and only the right tools reveal them.

👀 The question we get asked most often isn't about strategy or settings. It's "so where is my money, exactly?"

Fair question. It's the one that should come first, and hardly anyone asks it. Here's the honest answer.

🔐  Your funds never sit with us. They stay in your own wallet, on your own balance. Botty connects through trading access only, granted by a wallet signature on Hyperliquid, and that access carries no withdrawal permissions.
Read that again, because the wording matters. Not "we promise not to touch your funds." The permission structurally isn't there. The connection cannot move money off the exchange, because it was never granted the ability to. There's nothing to promise, and nothing you have to take on faith.

What the connection can do is place orders, modify them and close them. That's it. Trading access, and nothing else.
Your funds live in your own wallet rather than in a platform account at all. You're not depositing into someone else's pot and hoping the withdrawal button still works next month. You sign to grant trading access, you trade, and custody never leaves your hands. No documents uploaded, no verification queue, no exchange account to open. And because everything settles on-chain, the activity is verifiable in the open rather than in a database you'll never get to see.
A proper setup is boring to describe, which is the point. One key. Trade permissions only. Revocable by you at any moment from inside the exchange itself. You don't need our approval to cut the connection: you kill it from your own account in a few clicks, and the bots simply stop having anywhere to send orders.
