BREAKING: Omoyele Sowore Condemns Continued Detention of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Calls It Political Witch Hunt.
Human rights activist and 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing it as an alleged case of political vendetta rather than justice.
Sowore made the remarks in a post on his verified social media accounts on Wednesday, where he urged Nigerians not to remain indifferent to El-Rufaiโs situation simply because they may dislike the former governor.
โIt may not bother some people, but the continued detention of elrufai is not about justice; it is political vendetta,โ Sowore wrote.
He argued that oppression becomes easier to tolerate when its target is someone unpopular, warning that allowing perceived injustice against one individual could eventually expose others to similar treatment.
โIt is easy to look the other way because he is not your headache, and perhaps because you donโt consider him a nice person. But that is exactly how oppression works,โ he said.
Sowore further warned that tolerating injustice against one person could create a precedent for its use against others.
โOnce injustice is tolerated against one person, it becomes easier to use it against everyone else,โ he added
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has remained in custody since his arrest in February 2026 amid investigations by the ICPC into allegations relating to his tenure as Kaduna governor.
