whenever I get back into reading any literature from Pakistan, I am reminded of how so many of these books, stories, and essays are not written for a Pakistani audience. they're always for the diaspora, or to fulfill the West's fetish for poverty/misery porn from the global south

His name is Akbar Gabol, this is the poor man on whose land today the largest mosque in Pakistan and the third largest mosque in the world is being built. Bahria Town Karachi is being built on the heritage lands of Akbar Gabol, Faiz Mohammad Gabol and other local people.
