Two key advocates for Public Service Commission (PSC) intern rights Dr. Daniel Nyabuti and Eric Mutwiri are currently detained at Central Police Station following their arrest today during a protest held at the PSC headquarters near Commission House on Harambee Avenue.
This arrest occurred despite their protest being legally sanctioned with a permit issued by authorities on Monday, July 19 2024.
The coordinated protest was organized in response to ongoing frustrations with the handling of intern employment by PSC.
With no union to represent them, the interns decided to take action themselves, driven by systemic corruption and unresponsiveness from the commission.
Some of the protestors demands include:
1. Confirmation of all interns across counties and the UHC.
2. A halt to corruption and nepotism within the PSC.
3. An audit of hiring practices since 2018.
4. Eradication of ghost workers.
5. Removal of individuals with fake certificates from office.
6. Enforcement of retirement age policies.
