Snapchat was the first app I ever started creating content on and tomorrow I’m doing a kitchen takeover at Snapchat UK HQ.
Chef Sam & his team will be cooking my Ghanaian recipes for the entire 300 Snapchat team. WOW! honestly can’t believe this is my life right now😭
After the Belgians created the ethnic classifications "Hutu" and "Tutsi" that culminated in the 1994 genocide, the Belgian "peacekeepers" immediately left Rwanda fall into chaos.
It was the Ghanaian peacekeeping contingent led by General Kwami Anyidoho who chose to stay in Rwanda and protect the lives of over 30,000 of their African brothers and sisters in Rwanda.
The solutions to African insecurity and instability issues always come from Africans themselves. There is no foreign saviour who loves you to the point of risking his life to protect you. There were 3 countries on that peacekeeping mission - Belgium, Bangladesh, and Ghana.
The Belgians and Bangladeshis left immediately the chaos started. Only the Ghanaians stayed, because only Africans value the lives of other Africans. There are at least 30,000 people who survived 1994 in Rwanda because of General Anyidoho and his humane decision. Some of them have children and grandchildren.
Those who understand will understand. Those who don't, will never. That is the way of the world.
Yes we can promote inclusivity by adding other languages in digital Art, a digital board showcasing Akwaaba and other welcome words in different languages but merely putting away ’Akwaaba’ because of tribal sentimentalism shouldn’t be allowed.

“Akwaaba" is a Twi word from Ghana meaning "welcome". It is a warm and hospitable greeting used to receive guests and express hospitality
Akwaaba isn’t related just to the Ashanti’s,it’s an Akan word used across all Akan speaking communities and also used by Ivorians…
#akwaaba
Changing it merely based on some group of people instigating tribal sentiments is worrying!
Beyond the borders of Ghana some people easily relate to Ghana and our heritage when they see the Akwaaba signage.
