The Aberdyfi bell is referred to in ancient Gaelic legend as the kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod submerged beneath Cardigan Bay. Its said its bells can be heard ringing beneath the water. There is a stainless steel grille in the jetty floor so you can stand above the bell.

The wonderful Italianate style village of Portmeirion is just an 1 1/4 hour drive north of Aberdyfi. It can also be reached by the coastal railway line. It's a stunning journey. Great for a day trip and lunch
