Funnily I've been contemplating this exact thing for a SaaS I acquired. My take is that making it free will lead to more brand searches, brand mentions and links which is a win-win from a Google Organic POV. Will see how it pans out.
Buy a SaaS with no revenue !
One of the easiest and best ways to turn a failing (or no revenue) SaaS business profitable is to make it FREE
Free? Yes. Free

@NicheDown@AnneMossYeys You can set up a spreadsheet merging Wordpress metadata and GSC and get all sorts of interesting insights, including seeing growth of newly added content as its own segments.

Example of a graph showing growth in clicks for groups of articles based on published month.
Want to know how that group of articles you published 4 months ago is doing?
Want to know how a new category of the site is doing?
All just a few drag & drops away.
This is a great start and I would recommend taking it a step further. Merge with GSC data & you have a very customizable/useful dataset.
You can pivot in numerous ways & get time trended Clicks, Avg. Pos etc. of cohorts of pages based on Published Dates, Categories, Topics etc.
For every website you operate, you should have a Content Database.
This where you see all of your content, live or pending, the silos they belong to, the keywords and secondary keywords they are targeting, the assigned writer and more.
A birds-eye view of your content.
@fatjoedavies In a nutshell, joining on URL. Using GSC data as the base you can layer on meta data using VLOOKUPs based on the URL column and the lookup table (your content database). For each row of GSC data you'll have the relevant metadata appended. Then it's a matter of pivoting this data
I'm surprised I've never watched this video by @wilreynolds. The concept of ranking PAAs by count of Keywords is the whole thesis behind https://t.co/8EfdbSl2g1 PAA tool. And he talked about it in 2018 ๐

@indexsy@QuinStreet Ha don't let their site fool you, they have a very matured backend. They are heavily into B2B and every major insurance carrier uses them.
Source: Me, from spending ungodly amounts with them buying traffic.
@kearonis@lilyraynyc does amazing work in this area. She shares findings from time to time. But good place to start - https://t.co/5oLZ5wqE9v

This is the breakdown of organic Google traffic for a publisher site I'm working on and a pretty common one... in fact, some other clients of ours have 60-70% of their traffic coming from Discover.
@SearchForRyan You can cut a lot of this cost by picking a solid expired domain and get their just as fast. Both approaches have pros and cons but it's very easy to waste money on crap links. Definitely doable in under a year if you focus on the right things.
@AnneMossYeys While I agree KD is not a complete soln for competition, it has value if you use it for what it does. It's a measurement of # of links (domains) for top 10 URLs. Nothing less nothing more. Great starting point as it tells if you need to build links to individual pages to compete
