Messi carried Argentina (not exactly stacked with superstars like prime Madrid or City) to a World Cup in 2022, scoring in every knockout round including the final.

He did it again in 2026 at 38–39 years old, breaking the all-time WC goal record (21) and assist record. That’s not “system ball” , that’s carrying a national team on his back for 6 World Cups.

At Inter Miami, he joined a mid-table MLS side with no superstars and immediately turned them into champions (Leagues Cup + Supporters’ Shield).

He’s still producing insane numbers at 39 outside Europe.

Meanwhile, the “carry king” (Cristiano Ronaldo) you worship needed prime teammates like Bale, Benzema, Modric, Kroos + one of the best squads ever assembled for most of his success.

All of them are still correct:

Ronaldo has 5. Messi won them across three decades. Not wrong, not close to being broken.

672 goals for one club (Barcelona) - Still the record. Surpassed Pelé’s 643 for Santos. No one is even close in the modern era.

474 La Liga goals - Still the record by a mile. Ronaldo has 311 for Real Madrid. Gap is massive.

91 goals in a calendar year (2012) : Still the Guinness World Record. Nobody has come within 10 goals of it since Gerd Müller’s 85 in 1972. Not “on the verge” at all.
