@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours It is important to get an average of 6-8 hours of sleep each night. Sleepiness can become dangerous. Sleep deprivation is slowly becoming the new norm for college students,
and poor sleep patterns are often linked to memory, learning, and even depression.
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours UNH and the town of Durham both do an amazing job keeping everyone in the community safe and comfortable. I personally know many of the first responders on this campus and I am so thankful that my health and safety is their top priority!
@HMP403_PH The dining halls let students take pieces of fruit out after eating. This gives a healthier snack option rather than resorting to junk food or vending machine items. πππ #PHin48hours
@HMP403_PH In today's class Pam Thomas had us sign in, fill out teacher evaluations and then tweet something about today's class (this). Thank you for a great semester, see you at the final exam!
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours Encouraging healthy snacks, hydration and physical activity is very important. I believe that this is a public health matter because more than 57% of today's youth is predicted to be obese by the time they are 37 y/o, according to @HarvardChanSPH.
@HMP403_PH@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours Giving blood is a quick and easy way to give back to your community. Your blood donation can help save lives. I believe it is extremely important to have blood drives regularly, and encourage individuals throughout the community to participate in them.
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours Today on campus there was a blood drive. When I saw students and faculty walking around in the late afternoon with the bright green stickers on their chest that read, "I just donated my blood!" I immediately thought of this assignment.
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours Having correct/teaching and encouraging correct disposal of wastes is very important. My house has trash cans, recycling bins, and compost bins. Compost returns value nutrients to soil, and recycling helps reduce pollution and the need for raw materials.
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours The fire alarm, fire extinguisher, and the defibrillator (as well as the proper training for all of these that AXID goes through annually) helps protect and keep safe the individuals in this house from experiencing crisis, and promotes safety.
@HMP403_PH#PHin48hours Little things, such as this hand sanitizer dispenser in AXID's dining room, promote public health and remind individuals to protect themselves from receiving and spreading of germs and bacteria. It is so important to wash your hands as much as you can!
@HMP403_PH (Vanessa Grunkemyer tweet) @HMP403_PH I loved listening to Vanessa in today's class. She made everything very easy to understand, she was simple to follow, and she was also extremely nice and outgoing. I learned a lot about food safety and the class was very interesting.
@HMP403_PH (Vanessa Grunkemyer tweet) @HMP403_PH "BIOSECURITY MATTERS. It matters because for example, we check animals before bringing them to an agricultural fair... that way they are safe as well as everyone at the fair (especially little kids feeding and petting them)." -Vanessa
(Vanessa Grunkemyer tweet) @HMP403_PH There are 8 federal oversights of food safety in the United States... WOW that is a lot of people working to make sure all the food we eat is safe. I never knew/or realized this before and think it is very interesting (and helpful to know).
@HMP403_PH (Vanessa Grunkemyer tweet) @HMP403_PH I thought it was interesting (and scary) to hear how easy it is to get a foodborne illness. Norovirus is the top foodborne pathogen in the U.S and is extremely spreadable. Animal products are usually a major cause of a foodborne illnesses.
(Vanessa Grunkemyer tweet) @HMP403_PH I learned that there are more than 250 foodborne diseases, most of those infections are caused by bacteria and viruses that are consumed. In the U.S 1/6 Americans will get food poisoning every year (yet we are one of the safer countries.)
@HMP403_PH (Philip J. Alexakos tweet) "Right now we are all getting exposed to a radioactive gas called Radon." "Dont take Tylenol if you are going out. It's very dangerous for your body." Phil was full of interesting facts and info and I really enjoyed listening to him in class today.
@HMP403_PH (Philip J. Alexakos tweet) "Even water can kill you. Drinking too much water can be very bad. If water keeps coming in and the cells cant keep pumping in out, they burst, tissues breakdown, organs shut down, then DEATH" wow...
