My issue of a nursing shortage pertains to the topic of patient centered care. For care to be high quality and specific, there must be adequate staffing ratios. I will address this issue by advocating for safe working conditions at all places of employment. #NURS3106 #M4W11

To advocate for the profession, I will join a professional organization so I am able to spread accurate information regarding the field. To advocate for myself, reasonable, safe and tolerable working conditions are required or a supervisor will be notified. #NURS3106 #M4W10

In future practice, I will balance leadership by following protocol and leading by example. Accountability will be balanced by admitting mistakes and correcting them promptly. Finally, responsibility will be balanced by making patient care the top priority! #NURS3106 #M4W9

The distractors include immunization history, frequency of output at home, and pt LOC. The most important info needed is pt weight. This info will serve as a baseline so the nurse can evaluate whether or not the child's dehydration is improving with intervention! #NURS3106 #M3W8

The EHR is an application used to store patient data. Although efficient, it does possess the associated risk of typos which play a role in miscommunication between healthcare workers. I will prevent this error by double checking all charting to ensure accuracy! #NURS3106 #M3W7

One challenge to effective communication within the healthcare team could be outside noise and distraction that distorts the message. I will overcome this challenge by speaking clearly and ensuring that the read-back provided is accurate and correct them if not. #NURS3106 #M3W6

I chose to follow @LaurenUnderwood because of the inspiring work she performed as a public servant at HHS. She helped implement the Affordable Care Act which improved healthcare quality for many. I hope to one day touch the lives of many, just as she has done! #NURS3106 #M2W5

Mrs. H’s care did involve malpractice as her nurses continuously failed to document her worsening conditions in a detailed yet timely manner. Communication to her physician and family about her changing state should have also occurred to help prevent her death. #NURS3106 #M2W4

As Mr. Green’s nurse, I would speak to him further about his suicidal thoughts before notifying my supervisor immediately so necessary actions could be taken. Non-maleficence guides me to this decision as it’s my duty to provide care and prevent harm to patients. #NURS3106 #M2W3

Pediatrics is the area I would seek for practice today! Having 3 younger siblings and babysitting constantly has left me passionate about caring for children. Helping kids heal, while supporting them and their parents through the process would be truly remarkable. #NURS3106 #M1W2

Watching my mom and other nurses I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with, touch the lives of patients with their care ultimately pushed me to nursing. Witnessing the difference a nurse can make in one’s life left me with no doubt it was the profession for me. #NURS3106 #M1W1

From this course, I expect to learn in great depth about the history of nursing and how the trends have changed to improve the profession over time. With this information, I hope to become a well-rounded, educated nurse that can lead, inspire and care for those in need. #NURS3106
