Yubico has announced the release of YubiKey 5.8, a firmware update that enhances the functionality of hardware-backed passkeys beyond secure login authentication, extending into verified authorization workflows.
This update, announced on July 21, 2026, is designed to support enterprise document signing, digital identity wallets, secure payments, and human approvals for AI-driven actions.
As enterprises face increasing risks from generative AI and autonomous agents, traditional multi-factor authentication methods can verify a user during login.

🛡️ LegacyHive Exploitation Chain Bypasses Windows Security Even With July 2026 Patches Installed
Source: https://t.co/UNHYA7VWGt
A newly disclosed exploit dubbed LegacyHive is raising alarms across the cybersecurity community after researchers confirmed it executes successfully on fully patched Windows systems running the July 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.
Unlike conventional exploits that rely on memory corruption or unpatched software bugs, LegacyHive takes a structural approach. It abuses how Windows initializes user profiles and loads registry hives during the logon sequence.
Their technical breakdown reveals a technique that blends legitimate, built-in Windows APIs in an illegitimate sequence.

Troops rescue 48 kidnap victims as terrorists flee after gun battle in Zamfara
By Zagazola Makama
Troops of Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was launched in the early hours of July 26 after troops of Sector 2 received a distress call reporting that a large group of terrorists riding on about 40 motorcycles had invaded the community.
The terrorists were said to have rounded up dozens of residents with the intention of taking them into the forest, while another group remained on the outskirts of the village guarding the motorcycles.
Acting promptly on the intelligence, troops mobilised to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
The superior firepower of the troops forced the attackers to abandon the abducted victims and flee into the surrounding bush, leading to the successful rescue of all 48 kidnapped civilians.
Sources said one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Following the rescue, troops carried out aggressive patrols to dominate the area and prevent any further attacks by the fleeing terrorists.
Military authorities commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the troops during the operation, describing the rescue as another demonstration of Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to protecting communities across the North-West.
The Theatre Command also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to sustain ongoing operations against terrorist groups in the region.
OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS SURRENDER OF SENIOR ISWAP FINANCE OPERATIVE AS WAVE OF TERRORIST SURRENDERS GATHERS MOMENTUM
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative, underscoring the sustained impact of ongoing kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across the North East. The development comes amid a growing wave of terrorist surrenders, with approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily surrendering to troops in recent days, further highlighting the mounting pressure on terrorist strongholds.
The terrorist surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion under 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on 25 July 2026 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. His decision to lay down his arms follows the recent series of coordinated and decisive land and air offensives conducted by Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist enclaves.
Preliminary profiling indicates that the terrorist served as the Chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics. He surrendered alongside two male children.
Items recovered from the terrorist include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one motorcycle, and the sum of ₦40,000. The individual is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to exploit actionable intelligence that will support ongoing operations and facilitate the targeting of remaining terrorist elements across the Theatre.
The surrender of such a key finance operative represents another significant setback for ISWAP, reflecting the growing erosion of the group’s command structure, operational capability, and sustainment network under the relentless pressure of Operation HADIN KAI. Coupled with the increasing number of recent surrenders, this development confirms deepening disillusionment within terrorist ranks and points to an accelerating wave of defections from terrorist camps.
Operation HADIN KAI remains steadfast in its mission to restore enduring peace, security, and stability across the North East. The Theatre Command therefore calls on all remaining terrorists to take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms before it is too late. The Command also urges members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over his alleged involvement in supplying military accoutrements to terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
Military sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, identified as 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Training Facility (NAOTF), Lagos, was apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25 by troops of 7 Provost Group led by the Acting Commander.
According to the sources, preliminary investigations revealed that before he was declared wanted by the Army, the soldier absconded from his unit and travelled to Maiduguri on July 7, where he allegedly went into hiding.
Investigators further established that he was allegedly sheltered at Gomari Costain in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State by 25NA/89/12687 Private Baba Kamal Sale of the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops of the 7 Provost Group placed the suspect under 24-hour surveillance before intercepting and arresting him at Jidari Bus Stop while he was allegedly attempting to flee to Cameroon.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where he is undergoing further investigation into the alleged supply of military accoutrements to terrorist elements and the possible involvement of other collaborators.
Military sources described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle insider networks aiding terrorist groups, adding that investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities and identify any accomplices.
