annotating isn't just for "challenging" books, it can be for ANY BOOK. i use it to mark down passages/phrases i like or jot down any notes, definitions, translations, or first impressions i have while i read. it's also useful in helping some people concentrate while reading
Something quite bizarre atm is the "annotation" phenomenon among online female readers: highlighting and adding notes to often totally unchallenging mass market novels while filming/taking photos. It's intellectual theatre, it's ASMR, it's "aesthetics," but also like... why??
The hand lettered ink for my Frankenstein title treatment was definitely a little out of my comfort zone but I think I it turned out great in the final!
