ESPN was what is was because every person in this photo started at the ground. No social media. No influencers. They were journalists in small markets, perfecting their on-air presence for years before getting the spotlight.
Now? Former athletes and TikTokers. Never the same.
I just wanted to share a little something with you.
Tuesday I had a shoot early in the morning at UHigh with Lane Kiffin’s son. He was very gracious and polite kid. I enjoyed visiting with him. Driving back on Highland Road to WAFB I passed in front of Vina Cleaners, which has been closed for quite awhile.
I used to get my dry cleaning done there regularly. It appeared to be a one-man operation. There was a very kind, extremely hard working middle-aged Asian man named Tony who appeared to do everything. Especially during the summer months this guy was sweating, hustling and grinding like no one’s business. Once he burned his arm badly at work and just kept pushing forward with a cast.
At that moment driving back I wondered what ever happened to Tony? Where was he? What was he up to? I admired the man and he was always kind to me. We would small chat about sports and other things.
I probably hadn’t seen him in at least a decade or more.
I went about my business the rest of the day. I got home somewhat early and ordered some Uber Eats.
The driver later called. He was turned around and couldn’t find his way, which is not uncommon out there. I talked him through it. Eventually I stood outside my house, as a truck pulled up. The man stuck his head outside the driver’s window.
“It’s you!”
You guessed it, it was Tony.
We talked for a good bit and I shared what I just shared with you. I was thinking about him that day and wondering where he was. And boom, he’s my Uber Eats driver appearing at my front door and we’re visiting.
He looked good. A sweet soul. A good man.
When something like this happens, it further reiterates and proves without a doubt there is a higher power. I’m sorry, things like this don’t just happen. And the higher power wants to bring us together, not tear each other apart.
It was a poignant, happy occurrence for me and a wink and a nod from somewhere afar.
It was great seeing you, Tony.
"Hey, the new intern is starting today, it's a woman"
"Bro help me think of something cool to do"
"You should get your sword out and start waving it around"
"Genius bro thanks"
I love how these guys don't rate a mention.
They don't even figure in Zohran's world view.
In his mind New York City just emerged out of an ether like 30 years ago when Yemeni bodega owners arrived.
For him, New York City didn't even exist prior to the arrival of people like himself.
Insane ethno-narcissism.
@spach142379543 @AlexLou0411 “I like to wait until they have the game priced settled perfectly.” How does that make sense in any world. If you are betting these lines at close, you have little to no shot. Dudes an idiot
