Which is career independence. Let me explain…

Your employer should never be the only person managing your career. Never!

You have to master the art of learning and keeping evidence of what you’ve delivered.

You also have to build relationships before you need them. Don’t just call people when you need something… it’s annoying!

Know what skills the market is asking for, and keep your CV and LinkedIn ready, and not only when you need a job.

So when you projects/ contracts ends, and organisations changes, your capability goes with you.

Take ownership of it.

My PMs… as promised, I'm back this evening cos this morning I said…
"Having a date for your project isn't a plan… it's just a date."

So from a practical perspective, imagine someone telling you:
"We need the new website live by 30 November."

Please don't just open Excel or Planner and start putting dates everywhere.

Instead, work backwards. Understand what needs to happen before you can launch, and start listing it down.

You should have:

1. Requirements agreed
2. Content written and approved
3. Design completed
4. Website built
5. Testing completed
6. Issues fixed
7. Final approval received
8. Website launched

Now that you have the list, look at the dependencies. Keep in mind that you can't properly build what hasn't been designed, you can't test what hasn't been built, and you probably shouldn't launch what hasn't been approved.

Thennnnnn you estimate durations, assign owners, and finally add your dates.

That's how a deadline starts becoming an actual plan.
