FM Osman Saleh met yesterday, on the margins of UNGA80, Mr. Massad Fares Boulos, US Senior Advisor for African Affairs to President Trump to discuss avenues for renewed engagement between the two countries as well as the prospects of collaboration on vital matters of regional peace and stability.
This important meeting must be seen as a prelude to, and harbinger of, a new chapter of normative bilateral ties that will reverse almost two decades of adversity, that included unwarranted sanctions imposed on Eritrea with deleterious consequences, in the interests of both countries and the Horn of Africa region as a whole.

I kind of like it...as it gives us a chance to address these wild claims and nip it in the bud...so here we go.
To those claiming ‘access to the sea’ comes with a free buffet of oil, fish, and minerals, nice try, but no. Having access doesn’t mean you get to dig, drill, or fish—just to pass through. It does not mean #Ethiopia suddenly owns the Red Sea pantry. Eritrea, like every coastal state, has full sovereign rights over its Exclusive Economic Zone (#EEZ), 200 nautical miles wide and brimming with resources.
And here’s the kicker…the Red Sea is already carved up. Eritrea, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt all have EEZs stretching across it. What is “international” here is only the right of passage, not the right to fish, drill, or scoop up minerals. #Eritrea|s EEZ alone is slightly larger than its land area, a vast maritime domain that makes it one of the region’s most strategic coastal states. So, if you use #Eritrean ports, congratulations…you get a docking space. That’s it. The fish, oil, and minerals don’t come with your ticket.
In other words, yes, you can float your ship, wave at the coastline, and post selfies with the sunset. But the resources remain Eritrean. International law says “freedom of navigation,” not a free-for-all buffet…The fish in the sea, the oil under the seabed, and the minerals along the continental shelf remain #Eritrean. International law is clear…freedom of navigation guarantees that you can sail through, not that you get a free pass to the country’s resources.
He also muttered something about “international waters” … well, let’s clear that up too. Beyond national #EEZs, the seabed is a global commons managed by the International Seabed Authority (ISA). That means even if a landlocked state gains port access, it cannot legally claim or exploit minerals or resources beyond Eritrea’s EEZ. Those areas are governed by international law for the benefit of ALL, not for unilateral grabs. There’s simply no escaping the rules of international law.
Now, about the #Afar gimmick being recycled to claim #RedSea territories. Let’s be clear… sovereignty isn’t a karaoke contest where every ethnic group gets a verse. Maps may bend, ambitions may stretch, but sovereignty does not. #Eritrea|s borders are internationally recognized, and no amount of “what about me?” ethnic arguments can erase that legal fact.
If ethnicity alone dictated borders, #Africa would dissolve overnight into a jigsaw puzzle of chaos. Landlocked states from Mali to Uganda to Zimbabwe all have ethnic groups straddling borders, yet none of them is entitled to redraw maps or claim another country’s coast.
And finally, #Assab. Thank you, Sisay Agena, for tracing the latest fairy tale back to the #Derg. Very imaginative, but international law doesn’t bend to scribbles on maps made by an occupying force. The Derg had no authority to redraw #Eritrea|s borders. Assab is Eritrean, was, is, and will remain so. These wayward PP cronies ought to stop trying to hoodwink the suffering people of #Ethiopia with legalese, gimmicks, and shallow talking points.
Ethiopia’s leaders might try respecting international law for once, instead of treating it like play-dough to be twisted into whatever shape suits their ambitions They should stop auditioning as amateur law-makers and start respecting the law that already exists. Here’s a thought… maybe retire the full-time workshop in twisting and stretching international law beyond recognition…and try following it instead.
The 1st immediate step that US President #Trump could undertake to improve US relations with #Eritrea is to lift the unilateral #sanctions by executive order that the #Biden regime imposed Eritrea. The next step is to rescind the travel ban & visa restrictions on Eritrea.

The pattern/playbook is boringly the same. Some obscure entities with organic links to major intel agencies fabricate a defamatory story or narrative to sully the image of their victim country or prey; in this case #Eritrea.
Within minutes, NED/USAID/EU funded media outlets (The Guardian et al and associated regional networks, Addis Standard etc.) recycle and amplify the story for maximum coverage.
This is the modus operandi of the subtly crafted Eco-chamber: the closed loop of defamation and disinformation.
This is the context and ecosystem of the resurgence these days, for whatever underlying reason, of the wholesale assaults against the EDF.
Let's underline the civilized Rules of Engagement of the EPLA during the liberation war and on whose legacy and operational doctrine the EDF was established.
Let us recall that even during the last days of the independence war, the EPLA released and ensured the safe repatriation of 100,00 Ethiopian POWs. (Article below elaborates on this legacy and the EDF's Rules of Engagement)

In accordance with the provisions of Proclamation 137/2003, the GOE has disbursed, through monthly payments, around 6 billion Nakfa in aggregate for the continued welfare of Martyrs families - the fathers, mothers, sons and daughters of Eritrea's best sons and daughters who paid the ultimate price to assert and safeguard Eritrea's national independence and sovereignty.
In addition, various institutions and individuals at home and in the Diaspora have, and continue to make, significant donations and launch several initiatives to extend invaluable assistance to Martyrs families.

Eritrea was an anomaly in Africa in 2005 when it expelled USAID. On some development indicators it has fared as well as other countries that have benefited from billions in donor largesse https://t.co/bmN76d6Pk9
#BREAKING 🚨 ― Saudi Arabia is setting the stage for a profound strategic shift in the Horn of Africa through its planned multi-billion dollar investment in Eritrea's Assab port.
This investment in Assab port could significantly disrupt Ethiopia's maritime ambitions.
Secret report suggest that Ethiopia might even consider military action to secure access through Assab, however, Saudi Arabia's involvement could deter such aspirations by enhancing Eritrea's defensive capabilities and economic stability, making any aggressive move by Ethiopia costly and politically untenable.

@EliasAmare PM Abby wants to divert his own political crisis. Still Eritrea will prevail against odds. Peaceful coexistence welcome but you can't threaten a sovereign country 🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷
