Picked a Boda Guy along USIU Road... Paid them and found out his name is Sifuna. Looked him in the eyes and asked him... "Wewe ni nani" He replied "Mimi ni Sifuna"
Absolutely made my morning 😁
I asked Nahashon about MansaX & its return profile.
· By my math, the Kes fund's annual return since inception has averaged a stellar 18.3%, the period between 2021 & 2022 presented the fund's trough with returns in the ~ 15.0% terrain
· How is it that the fund has never reported a down quarter?
His take:
· MansaX's consistently outlier returns are a function of its long/short strategy
· What this means is that the fund's strategy is informed by taking long positions in assets expected to outperform while simultaneously shorting assets expected to decline or underperform
· His argument is that on a net basis, this almost always ensures that the fund is hedged out whichever way the markets swing
· He argues that whereas the fund has never had a down quarter, it certainly has down days when the performance is granulated
· He says he is never bothered about markets turning because they turn all the time anyway & a fund needs to be agile enough to pivot & rebalance its portfolio depending on where the risk is crystallising
There is a reason your boss is in that senior position and you are not (whatever the reason). Never use your specialized knowledge to try appear more smarter than them.
So friedrich nietzsche has a quote, and it's arguably one of the most brilliant things I've ever heard. And I think you need to hear it. It goes like this, "most people do not think, they repeat, they adopt the opinions of those around them, wear them like borrowed clothes and call it a worldview. And when you dare to think for yourself, really think, they will not admire you for it, they will resent you because your refusal to conform is a mirror they did not ask to look into. The unexamined man does not hate you because you are wrong. He hates you because somewhere beneath the noise he suspects you might be right."
When Lynda Holt launched Capital FM in 1996, she revolutionized the way radio content was produced and consumed in Kenya. Because of her, KBC also introduced Metro FM which I joined as a trainee in 1997.
I joined Capiroo in 2003 and spent the next 13 years there with in-between stints as an anchor on KTN and as the founder GM for K24.
This afternoon, I go back to celebrate 30 years of The Best Mix of Music. I look forward to doing The Capital Report at 6pm.
