Put this sign up in your locker room: Losers assemble in small groups and complain about coaches and players… winners assemble as a TEAM and find ways to win.
Student athlete who skip class, hide in the weight room, disrespect teachers, make excuses, are also bad teammates. How you do one thing, is how you’ll do everything. You can’t flip the switch. Being a winner is about being consistently good. Be the best version of you 24/7/365.
Dear Players,
I coach you because I care about you. I challenge you because I believe in you. I cheer you on because I know you can. I hold you accountable because I know life will. I tell you the truth because I know most will not.
Sincerely,
My Why
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
COACHES: Treat your athletes with respect, dignity, and empathy even when they do not return the favor, or they act immature, or they cost you a win. Be the adult. Be the positive leader. Be the example. Be one of the reasons they become a good adult one day.
STRONG CULTURES VALUE....
💯 We over me.
💯 Process over results.
💯 Serving over self-focused.
💯 Learning over stubbornness.
💯 Encouragement over negativity.
💯 Teamwork over individual needs.
💯 Communication over assumption.
GREAT TEAMS HAVE GREAT TEAMMATES!
What’s fair about life? Nothing. Life is unfair to everyone. You can’t control the ups & downs, so don’t depend on luck. Work to make your own luck. Life doesn't owe us anything. Everything good that comes your way is a blessing. Trust me, there are many who have it a lot worse!
During practice, selfless teammates will momentarily put aside their friendships & compete against each other because they care about the team’s success in competition! Practice the way you play! It’s never personal. It’s just necessary for real preparation. Competing IS caring!
Top 3 reasons to NEVER complain about playing time...
1. Complaining has never made anyone better!
2. TEAM players do what’s best for the TEAM (even if that means being the best back up you can be)!
3. 99.9% of the time, your playing time is up to YOU!

High school freshman and sophs . Playing JV to get maximum reps is not punishment or disrespectful . You are the future of the program and you need to develop!!!
Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS . Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS . Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS . Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS . Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS . Stop telling kids to play one sport in HS .
PARENTS: If you tend to blame others, then your kids will most likely blame others. If you make excuses, your kids will likely make excuses, also. If you fail to act responsibly, your kids will most likely avoid taking responsibility for their actions. Your kids are watching 👀
Coaches know you aren’t all in when you:
Act like you’re above others
Make excuses
Don’t listen with ears/eyes
Whine
Shut down when coached
Don’t communicate
Think rules don’t apply to you
Don’t do extra work
Pout when subbed/benched
Don’t support teammates
Play for “me”, not we
Athletes! As difficult as it is for you to leave family & friends to come back to campus for practice, it is pretty amazing to think about the elite company you are in. Less than 1% do what you do. Amazing!!
Clinton girls' basketball has dedicated their season to Craig Dixon after the assistant coach passed away in June
"They want to live more like Dixon and I think that would be a good little motto for us to carry on here"

PLAYERS: There are two important things that you can control -- your ATTITUDE & EFFORT. Your coaches don't determine this. Your teammates don't determine this. Your parents don't determine this. Only you can determine your level of effort and attitude.
